The Battery Storage device type in the Matter ecosystem enables smart monitoring and control of DC battery systems, supporting both charging and discharging to manage energy demands efficiently. Designed for integration with Energy Management Systems, the Battery Storage device can regulate energy storage to optimize costs and balance supply and demand within a connected home or building. This device type is structured via endpoint composition and can be paired with optional Solar Power devices, allowing a seamless flow between solar energy generation and battery storage.
Each Battery Storage device includes essential components such as Power Source, Electrical Sensor, and Device Energy Management clusters, with optional support for Temperature Sensor and Solar Power clusters. The Electrical Sensor device monitors the flow of energy at the AC grid connection point, measuring metrics like Voltage, Active Current, and Exported Energy. For devices capable of three-phase power, additional endpoints can be configured to measure each phase, with semantic tags specifying each phase’s location. If supported, individual batteries or battery sets may also have dedicated monitoring endpoints.
The Battery Storage device type integrates advanced energy management features like Power Adjustment, which allows the device to control power output dynamically. By supporting various energy measurement and monitoring capabilities, the Battery Storage device ensures efficient energy management within a Matter-connected home, making it suitable for applications like peak load management and cost optimization.
