The Heat Pump device type in the Matter ecosystem enables smart heating for spaces and water tanks, using energy-efficient methods by drawing heat from the ground, air, or water sources. This device type supports heating through air circulation, central heating radiators, or underfloor systems and may also include functionality for heating and storing hot water in a tank. Each Heat Pump device is designed to integrate with Temperature Sensors and Thermostats, providing detailed temperature monitoring and control across connected spaces.

A Matter-enabled Heat Pump includes essential components such as Power Source, Electrical Sensor, and Device Energy Management clusters, along with optional Thermostat and Water Heater device types for added functionality. Temperature Sensors can measure flow and return temperatures of water in heating systems, while Thermostats monitor and manage room temperatures. The Thermostat clusters can either be embedded in the Heat Pump itself or exist as separate, third-party devices that the Heat Pump controls, allowing for flexible temperature management within a connected home.
