The Network Infrastructure Manager device type manages and secures Wi-Fi, Thread, and Ethernet networks, providing centralized control for connected Matter devices. It supports Matter’s Star Network Topology, enabling seamless, policy-driven network access.

The Network Infrastructure Manager device type in the Matter ecosystem serves as a central management interface for underlying networks such as Wi-Fi, Thread, and Ethernet within a Matter-enabled deployment. This device supports Matter’s Star Network Topology, facilitating seamless connectivity and data flow between connected devices and network layers. Common implementations include Wi-Fi gateway routers that handle network traffic, monitor connections, and maintain stable links across devices in a smart home.

Each Network Infrastructure Manager includes clusters for essential network operations, such as Wi-Fi Network Management, Thread Border Router Management, and the Thread Network Directory. The device may also incorporate the Managed Device (MNGD) feature within the Access Control Cluster, allowing it to enforce policies and control network access, often managed by the device vendor or an associated service provider. This level of control makes it ideal for environments with centralized network management needs, as it can handle multiple network types and ensure secure, policy-driven access.

The device must support a bridged hub network model, connecting IPv6 devices across Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Thread interfaces for robust connectivity.
