The Oven device type in the Matter ecosystem represents a versatile, connected appliance capable of heating food in one or more cabinets and may optionally include a cooktop with individual cook surfaces. This device type can be configured with multiple components, such as cabinets with temperature control and a cooktop that enables additional cooking methods. Typical examples include conventional ovens, wall ovens, and convection ovens, with each component functioning as an independent endpoint within the Matter network, allowing for precise control and monitoring across different sections of the oven.
In a Matter-enabled oven, each component operates as an endpoint with a specific purpose. For example, a two-cabinet oven with a cooktop would be structured as follows: the oven root node (EP0) lists each part within the oven, while each cabinet (EP2 for the top and EP3 for the bottom) functions as an independent Temperature Controlled Cabinet. The cooktop itself (EP4) is a separate endpoint that can contain multiple cook surfaces (EP5 and EP6), with each cook surface identified by a semantic tag, such as "Left" or "Right." These designations enable accurate targeting of each component for control and automation purposes within the Matter network.

Matter-compliant ovens follow a structured composition where each cabinet and cook surface is identified and managed through specific clusters, such as Temperature Control and On/Off clusters, according to their roles. The Oven device type ensures seamless integration and functionality within smart kitchens, providing users with enhanced control over each section of the oven, as well as improved safety and regulatory compliance. Semantic tags and structured endpoints make it possible to manage individual components, offering a reliable, flexible cooking solution in a connected environment.
