The Water Heater device type in the Matter ecosystem is designed to provide hot water for household needs such as showers and baths. Each Water Heater device is organized via endpoint composition and can support multiple temperature measurement sensors, each designated with a semantic tag (e.g., "Top," "Middle," "Bottom") to specify sensor positioning. This setup allows for accurate and location-specific temperature monitoring, providing a more detailed understanding of the water heater’s internal temperature distribution.

The Water Heater device type includes essential features for control and energy efficiency. Basic control functions are handled through the Thermostat cluster, which allows users to set heating schedules and desired temperature setpoints for hot water. Additional functionality, such as estimated hot water content and smart reheating, is provided by the Water Heater Management and Water Heater Mode clusters, enhancing the device's versatility. To incorporate energy management, the device can optionally include the Device Energy Management and Electrical Sensor device types, enabling features like Electrical Power Measurement and Electrical Energy Measurement for tracking energy use.

The Water Heater device type also integrates optional energy-saving features through the Device Energy Management cluster, supporting power forecasting to optimize energy consumption. By including both thermostat-based control and energy management, this device type offers a comprehensive solution for maintaining hot water availability while supporting energy-efficient operations in a smart home environment.
