Following a series of successful crowdfunding campaigns that have raised nearly $200,000 since its initial launch back in 2023, Arpobot's ingenious retrofit solution for window coverings is now available for the first time on Amazon. Designed for existing beaded-chain blinds, roller shades, and more, the Arpobot Smart Shade offers on-demand privacy, scheduling, and potential energy savings all via Matter and Thread connectivity.
Arpobot Smart Shade: why it matters
Available in three distinct finishes—white, wood, and marble—the Arpobot Smart Shade is a tiny motorized device that utilizes a cogwheel system for the opening and closing functionality of coverings. Although small at just 196mm x 46mm x 42.3mm in size, it can handle most coverings up to 11 pounds, all while its two-piece frame mounts neatly out of the way either via the included double-sided adhesive tape or screws.
As with its design, the Arpobot Smart Shade offers flexibility when it comes to power as it supports both wired USB-C and battery options. While the company hasn't shared expected battery life, the pack is swappable, and it appears to double as a charger for other portable devices.
According to Arpobot, the Smart Shade's DIY-friendly design and Matter-over-Thread support enable a hassle-free installation and setup experience that can be completed in as little as five minutes. All that is needed is one of the many available Thread Border Routers, and a scan of the included Matter QR pairing code to get it connected to platforms such as Alexa, Google, Apple Home, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.
Currently, the Arpobot Smart Shade is certified for both the Matter 1.3 and the Thread 1.3 version specifications. Since Arpobot doesn't offer an app of its own, Smart Shade owners will need to rely on their preferred ecosystem for remote controls, scheduling, automation, and firmware updates.

The Arpobot Smart Shade is now available for purchase at Amazon in the U.S. for $129 each. The Smart Shade is also available at a slightly discounted sale price of $108 directly through the company's online storefront at arpobot.com.
