Germany-based Matter and HomeKit accessory maker Eve has certified new firmware for the Eve Light Switch US and Eve Dimmer Switch US, aiming for better performance.
The two new certifications, found on the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) website, come with version 3.5.1, a minor update. According to the Eve update changelog and the Matter Distributed Compliance Ledger (DCL), the Eve Dimmer Switch US & Canada has the update available via Matter platforms.
Minor fixes
The changelog states that this release brings overall improvements, while the update for the Eve Light Switch US is not yet available.
Also, Matter Alpha spotted Eve used the same compliance files for both devices for the 3.5.1 and 3.5.0 certifications. So the update for the dimmer switch and the upcoming update for the on/off switch should not change any Matter features. There are likely just bug fixes.
Matter Alpha has reached out to Eve for details but has yet to receive a response as of press time.
How to get the firmware
Matter-enabled Eve devices should be updated via a Matter platform. Available platforms include Apple Home, Home Assistant, and SmartThings. You’ll need to add the device to one of these platforms and wait for notification of the update.
Usually, Home Assistant and SmartThings are faster, displaying notifications and marking your device with a small icon to remind you of the update. Apple Home often takes a few days to update devices and send the proper notice.
Eve, owned by electrification giant ABB, is one of the few vendors actively using Matter’s system to maintain and push new firmware. Such solutions facilitate users and eliminate the need for a vendor app or private cloud service. In comparison, lower-priced devices often rely on vendor apps to update firmware, with some even bypassing Matter certification requirements. This can lead to a compromised experience compared with lab-tested devices.
