In my career covering tech gadgets, it feels like Govee has gone from being the scrappy underdog to stealing the show; quite literally, at this year’s IFA, where they’ve revealed a bevy of industry-firsts to add to an already impressive catalogue. Here's what's new at IFA 2025 from Govee—but there's no official word on pricing yet.
Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism
20% brighter than the previous generation of Outdoor Lights Pro, the Outdoor Lights Prism introduces a whole new weatherproof module that incorporates not just one, but three high-output optical segments (“Tri-Light System”), giving homeowners a unique look and more granular control over the lighting effects.
Each of the three outputs can be individually controlled to output different colors, or combined to create a larger cone effect similar to the previous generation. That means more gradual color transitions, unique effects, and more creative displays.
The Outdoor Lights Prism still offer industry-leading IP68 weatherproofing on the LED modules, and IP67 on the control box—and if it's anything like the previous generations, that's no joke. The first generation is still going strong on my home, despite the salty Cornish air that usually wrecks any outdoor electronics (and metal, and wood, and brickwork!)
The Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism will be available in the US only from September 22nd.
TV Backlight 3 Pro
For those who want the best in immersive TV viewing, a dynamic bias light that adjusts to what’s on the screen is an essential upgrade. The Backlight 3 Pro is Govee’s “works with anything” solution, using a camera that’s mounted on top of the TV (and only sees the TV, not the rest of the room) to anaylze screen content and adjust lighting accordingly.
Continuing the theme of threes, the TV Backlight 3 Pro uses a triple camera module for better screen coverage, more accurate color representations, and for the first time, HDR compatibility. But the magic isn’t just in the camera; the LED strip itself is now LuminBlend-rated, with a higher pixel density for 30% brighter and more granular output. Each pixel is RGBWW with a 16-bit color chip, offering outstanding color mixing and white light performance. The control box even features an AI system, apparently to adjust the white balance and saturation to match the style and atmosphere (though you’ll need to wait for our full review to see how well this works in practice).
If you’re wondering whether to get the Backlight 3 Pro or AI Sync Box 2…both essentially do the same thing, but the key difference is that you need an external video source you can feed into the AI Sync Box, which then does a hardware analysis of the video signal before sending it on to your TV. If not—because you’re using your native TV OS apps for streaming or otherwise don’t have access to the source HDMI signal—then the TV Backlight 3 Pro camera-based system is your next best option.
The TV Backlight 3 Pro will be available in the US, EU, and UK from September 29th.
Also being shown off at IFA are:
Govee Curtain Light Pro, with a higher pixel density and faster refresh which means more creative freedom to display animations and holiday effects. (Available September 8th in the US, EU, and UK)
Govee Pendant Light, with a unique three-segment ring to offer zoned lighting on the bottom, side, and curve. At up to 1300 lumens (white), this is a stylish option for your dining table or kitchen block with all the Govee smarts and DreamView compatibility. (Available from September 17th in US and EU; not UK)
Govee Star Light Projector Nebula is a novelty light that projects a starry space scene on up to 540ft2 of your ceiling, with 7-zone lighting plus a green laser star effect. It even features a built-in speaker with a selection of calming ambient soundscapes and white noises. (Available September 26th in the US, EU, and UK)
Govee Christmas Sparkle String Lights swap out the basic LED beads for a more traditional bullet-head design, perfect for a more traditional Christmas tree. (Available September 24th in the US, EU, and UK)
