Notable Matter smart home lighting manufacturer Govee is expected to release an updated version of its galaxy light projector, the 2 Pro, according to a recent Matter certification.
These projectors are unique devices featuring various presets, casting aurora and starry sky scenes onto your wall or ceiling. Currently, three such models appear on Govee’s official website: the first-generation Govee Galaxy Light Projector Pro, the Govee Star Light Projector, and the Govee Outdoor Laser Projector Lights.

Certification details from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) indicate the new generation is designed primarily for indoor use. While the design has not yet been revealed, it will likely resemble the first-generation model, with an indoor camera-like body. The projector is expected to have two functional parts: one for aurora lights and another for lasers to simulate stars, along with an adjustable stand.
As with other Govee devices, the projector works via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and it will support Matter natively. It can also be controlled through the Govee app, allowing for various custom settings and automations.
The Govee Galaxy Light Projector 2 Pro is based on Matter specification version 1.2, which the Alliance will discontinue for new certifications after six months. Although no key lighting features appear to be compromised, users may notice slightly reduced stability compared to devices running version 1.3 or later.
CSA compliance documents suggest the projector supports on/off commands, color controls, brightness adjustments, and mode control via Matter. However, the absence of the OTA cluster means native over-the-air updates through the Matter platform are likely not supported.
Availability
The updated projector is expected to carry a similar price tag – approximately $179.99. With the Matter certification granted, the device is probably in its final development stage and entering testing. Govee may provide additional announcements soon. As of press time, Govee has not yet responded to our inquiry about the product.
