A slick new addition to the HVAC (that's Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) category of smart home products has been announced by Hunter Fan. The ZenTech Bladeless is the highlight of an upgraded line of bladeless fans, and along with the power to blast refreshing air down into your room, the ZenTech Bladeless also has Matter support.
What does Matter, uh, matter to a fan?
The evolution of the smart home market has increasingly hinged on "interoperability."
Before Matter came along, juggling proprietary hubs and apps seemed to be the pinnacle of the smart home, and while Matter is yet to hit the true heights that interoperability promises, it is at least an answer to that problem. Fan experts the Hunter Fan Company (founded in 1886, based in Tennessee, USA) has spotted that Matter is making headway, and is integrating support for the smart home standard into the new ZenTech Bladeless ceiling fans, set for release later this year.
The potential for HVAC-based integrations, along with window, blinds, and presence sensors, makes a Matter-equipped fan a particularly desirable addition the home, especially in regions with hot summers.
What Matter actually means for your fan

Hunter’s Matter-enabled fans offer a few distinct advantages that go beyond the usual remote control options for such devices:
-
Platform freedom: Matter compatibility means the fan isn’t locked into a single ecosystem. Whether you primarily use Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Samsung SmartThings, the ZenTech Bladeless is designed to join your network seamlessly.
-
Local control and reliability: One of the main aims of Matter is to reduce landfill, and one of the ways in which it does this is by ensuring devices communicate locally, rather than via a cloud server that becomes inaccessible when the internet goes down (or might be switched off one day). So, your fan stays responsive even if your cloud connection is unstable.
-
Simplified setup: Matter’s standardized onboarding process (known as commissioning) is typically as simple as scanning a QR code. This cuts down the time between unboxing and full integration with your smart home to.
-
Multi-Admin capability: This is a big one for multi-user households. You can connect your ZenTech fan to multiple platforms simultaneously. If one family member prefers using Apple Home on their iPhone and another sticks to Google Assistant on a smart display, both can control the same device without conflict. This applies both to Matter support and the fan’s standard app.
Of course, this device has a set of features of its own. As illustrated, it features a lamp, an LED with 10 levels of light and 10 color temperatures. It is also damp-rated, enabling installation indoors and outdoors (perhaps in a connected pergola or gazebo)!
“Comfort is essential to enjoying outdoor living year-round,” said President Tom Blackwell. “As we enter the spring and summer seasons, we’re proud to introduce the next generation of high-performance outdoor cooling solutions –designed to help homeowners maximize their outdoor spaces in style and comfort.”
A smarter, cooler, quieter future
The ZenTech Bladeless isn't just about fancy connectivity. Hunter Fan Company are building high-performance tech that aims to be largely invisible. In the case of the ZenTech Bladeless, this means a chandelier-inspired, bladeless silhouette that hangs below the ceiling, far less unobtrusive than a traditional ceiling fan.
Set for launch in July 2026, the ZenTech Bladeless is accompanied by some other new (non-Matter) devices, the Dualmont Garage Fan (a wall-mounted device), and the AirStack (a traditional bladed fan).
