Furniture giant Ikea received a new Matter certification for its smart home hub Dirigera this week, updating it to the Matter 1.3 specification with new feature support.
The update – version 3 – is a major bump, bringing two major capabilities to its Matter bridge: support for water leak detectors and power meters. So Badring water leakage sensor and Inspelning smart plug from Ikea will work on Matter platforms through a Dirigera Hub.
Badring water leak sensor
Badring is one of three budget sensors introduced in late 2023 by Ikea. It is a water leak sensor with a built-in siren for leakage alarms.
The current Dirigera firmware still uses Matter 1.2, which does not support this device type. Unlike some vendors that repurpose it as a contact sensor, Ikea simply dropped support for Badring in the previous version of its Matter bridge.
However, recent compliance documents for Dirigera’s certification list water leak detector support, suggesting that it will be included soon.
Since Ikea does not restrict users from adding third-party Zigbee devices, any standard Zigbee 3.0 water leak detector should also benefit from the upcoming update.
Inspelning smart plug
Inspelning is a smart plug with power metering. Currently, Matter smart home platforms can only control their on/off function, with power monitoring features limited to the Ikea Home Smart app.
With Matter 1.3 support, Dirigera gains the ability to expose the plug’s power monitoring data to supported platforms like SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey. This was confirmed in the compliance documents.
As expected, the Inspelning smart plug will report operating voltage, current, power, and energy consumption to Matter platforms. Like Badring, third-party smart plugs with power metering may also benefit. Matter Alpha previously tested a Somfy plug with Dirigera, and the Ikea app displayed its power consumption just like Inspelning.
How to get it
Ikea distributes Dirigera firmware via the Ikea Home Smart app. You can enable auto-updates to receive the new firmware as soon as it is available.
Dirigera typically has a short release window – last time, it received Matter 1.2 certification on August 15, 2024, with the official release following two weeks later.
