Just a few short months after the launch of a successful crowdfunding campaign late last year, San Jose-based smart home company Intecular has made its InvisOutlet Aura available for purchase through Amazon for the first time. The Kickstarter sensation, which raised over $157,000, features a unique 2-in-1 modular design that combines a smart in-wall outlet with a full color LED light built right into its faceplate.

InvisOutlet Aura: smart outlet, night light, and more

Similar to most Matter-compatible smart in-wall outlets, the InvisOutlet Aura is a DIY-friendly solution that can be installed by anyone with basic electrical knowledge. The InvisOutlet Aura comes with pre-wired hot and neutral lines, Wago lever nuts, and a snap-on screwless faceplate, so most installations will only require a screwdriver.

Intecular's 15-amp InvisOutlet Aura sports two onboard receptacles with a Decora-style arrangement suitable for indoor use. Each outlet can be controlled individually, either through smart home integration via Matter-over-Wi-Fi or directly on-device through either of the two touchpads hidden underneath the face of the device.

According to Intecular, the Magic Touch pads are fully configurable, so users can set them as a quick way to toggle power or use them to dim or change the color of the built-in light. Even more interesting, though, is that the buttons are also exposed to Matter, meaning they can control other smart home devices regardless of the manufacturer through scenes and automation.

Matter support also extends to the outlet's lighting, giving owners the ability to use it as a visual status indicator or as an automation trigger. For example, the light can be set to automatically change to the color red when a Matter-compatible door and window sensor is left open, or green when all the smart locks in the home are secured.

Of course, the LED light can also serve as a fully-fledged Matter-compatible night light, too, with 9 addressable LEDs and dimming. As previously mentioned, the light resides entirely in the outlet's removable faceplate, positioned so that it shines downward onto surfaces below once installed.

The modular design strongly suggests that the outlet portion will work with Intecular's Pro series faceplate if the company ever makes them available separately. The InvisOutlet Pro's faceplate has additional sensors for temperature, humidity, and air quality, as well as the night light seen in the Aura.

Other highlights for the Aura include an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness levels in real-time, and Away Mode that simulates household activities throughout the day to act as a deterrent for potential intruders. And last but not least, the Aura also supports local controls over MQTT for platforms like Home Assistant.
