First introduced alongside an innovative smart mirror that quickly caught our attention at CES 2026, LIFX’s equally impressive, Matter-compatible Smart Dimmer Switch is finally available for purchase in the United States. The new dimmer switch combines traditional tactile controls with modern smart functionality, giving users access to a suite of customizable scene buttons as well as a sleek multi-LED status indicator bar that provides on-device visual feedback.

LIFX Smart Dimmer Switch: customizable buttons, gradient LED, and smart bulb compatibility

As with most Matter-compatible light switches, the LIFX Smart Dimmer is a DIY-friendly, hardwired, in-wall solution that requires a neutral line for installation. The 120-volt switch supports LED lighting loads up to 300W when used in a single-gang installation, and it is compatible with three-way configurations, making it suitable for situations where multiple switches control the same fixture.

On the front of the switch are four buttons: a large rocker used for toggling power, two smaller buttons for dimming, and a horizontal fade on/off control that rests near the top. Each button is programmable with up to three actions— single, double, and long press—effectively giving users a total of 12 physical controls for connected lighting or smart devices.

To the right of its buttons is the aforementioned LED status bar, which is similar in appearance to the Inovelli White Series Smart Dimmer—one of our favorite Matter devices. The indicator light supports full dimming and multicolor capabilities spread across eight distinct zones, positioning the switch as a potential night light replacement.

Other hardware highlights include smart bulb mode and support for Triode for Alternating Current (TRIAC) dimming. Smart bulb mode tackles one of the most common smart home problems by keeping connected lighting powered even when the switch is turned off, while TRIAC ensures smooth dimming performance with a wide variety of off-the-shelf light bulbs.

Like previous LIFX devices, the new dimmer switch connects to Matter over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, offering remote and local control without the need for an additional hub. According to LIFX—and verified on the DCL—the switch is Matter 1.3 certified, and taking a peek at our features database reveals that it supports essentials like color controls, dimming, and on/off functionality.

In addition to supporting ecosystems like Alexa, Apple Home, SmartThings, and Google Home via Matter, the dimmer switch also works with the LIFX mobile app—available on iOS and Android. Through the app, users can create custom schedules, assign it to scenes/routines, and find advanced features such as smart bulb mode and controls for customizing the integrated status LED.
