Notable smart sensor and switch maker Sonoff recently released two new Matter devices, a US smart plug and a duo-channel smart relay.

The new addition expands Sonoff’s Matter-over-Wi-Fi product range. The new relay is particularly useful for modifying multi-key existing light or fan switches, as most Matter offerings on the market are still single-channel ones. Sonoff MINI-2GS is one of the smallest options among rivals with a two-channel design, while Shelly’s Mini series (both Gen 3 and Gen 4) only offers single-channel control.

iPlug Gen2 S41s Plug

The US standard Type-B (120V only) smart plug converts a normal wall outlet into a “smart outlet,” enabling you to remotely control devices plugged into it, such as lights, fans, humidifiers, and small appliances, through Matter-enabled platforms like Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Home Assistant, and SmartThings.

A Matter-enabled smart plug designed for dependable everyday appliance control with strong safety protections and broad ecosystem compatibility. This plug focuses on reliability and multi-platform use: it supports Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa through Matter, allowing it to blend seamlessly into existing smart-home setups. Its 15A/1800W capacity and V-0 flame-retardant housing make it suitable for higher-demand household devices, while the relay is built to withstand extended use and can disconnect power instantly during lightning surges. Through app or voice control, you can turn connected appliances on or off from anywhere, set schedules, run countdown timers, or use the plug as both a trigger and action in automated routines. It’s built for homes that want smart control without sacrificing electrical safety.

On the reliability and safety side, the plug handles up to 15A / 1,800W load, meaning it is suitable for many household appliances of moderate power, but you should stay within its limits. Its enclosure is rated V-0 for flame retardance, the internal relay is rated for up to 10,000 on/off cycles, and there is surge protection. In case of power surges like lightning or unstable supply, the plug shuts off instantly to safeguard connected devices.

Beyond just on/off control, the iPlug Gen2 supports “smart scenes,” where you can configure the plug to act as a trigger or an action within automation routines. For example, scheduling devices to turn on/off at given times, setting countdown timers, or using it in more complex home-automation scenarios like motion-activated lights or timed humidifier shutoff with the eWeLink app.

MINI-2GS

The 2‑Gang Matter-over-Wi-Fi smart switch is designed to upgrade a traditional 2-gang wall switch into a smart, network-enabled one, but without changing the outward appearance of your wall controls.

A compact dual-channel smart switch that brings Matter-ready control to two separate electrical loads from any major smart-home platform. This switch is designed for people who want to discreetly upgrade existing light or device circuits without replacing visible wall hardware. Its two independent channels let you manage different loads from the same hidden module, while Matter support ensures it works smoothly across ecosystems like Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa. The detachable relay mode gives you unusual flexibility: the external wall switch can be used purely as an input without cutting power to the connected device, which is useful for setups where you want smart control to stay active regardless of how the physical switch is toggled. The device’s compact size allows it to sit behind a standard wall switch, and its built-in protections guard against overheating and surges for stable long-term use.

The module is small enough at 45 x 39 x 16.8 mm (slightly larger than the single channel MINIR4M) to fit behind standard wall switches and outlets, making it ideal if you want to keep your existing plates and physical switches intact while adding smart functionality.

Thanks to its “dual-load control,” you can independently manage two circuits with a single device. That is particularly useful in rooms with multiple fixtures like a ceiling light and fan, or two separate light circuits. The module supports up to 16 A total load, with 10 A per gang, giving enough headroom for typical home lighting or light-to-moderate appliance circuits.

Despite its support for a wide range of working voltage (110-240V), note that this device requires a neutral wire for installation, so it may not be compatible with older switch boxes that lack this wiring.

With Matter support, you can control connected circuits via a single unified smart-home app, set up automations or voice commands, and mix and match devices across brands.

The switch also offers a “Detach Relay Mode,” which decouples the physical external switch from the relay controlling the load. In other words, pressing the physical switch will not necessarily change the relay state, so you could use the physical switch simply as a “smart trigger” in the vendor app. This adds flexibility, especially if you mix the relay with smart lights.

Both devices are now available: A four-pack bundle of the iPlug Gen2 S41s is priced at $29.99 and the Sonoff MINI-2GS smart switch sells for $17.9 on the vendor’s online store and Amazon.
