Notable smart home device maker SwitchBot has just announced the availability of its new floor lamp with native Matter support in Japan.
This is a further expansion by SwitchBot, as it seeks to fill the categories missing from its ecosystem, in which lighting devices play a major role. SwitchBot has previously released several basic lighting devices, including LED light strips, color bulbs, and a ceiling light. For ambiance lighting, floor lamps are popular choices that Matter rivals, like Wiz, Nanoleaf, and Govee, have focused on.
What is the SwitchBot floor lamp?
The SwitchBot floor lamp features a classic design: a 1.35-meter-thin body with a light bar on the side, a black case, and a rounded stand. Such a design fits well into corners and gaps within home settings, providing ambient light. According to SwitchBot, the lamp is flexible for installation and can also be placed horizontally as a main or working light. A horizontal stand pack is included for easy placement on a TV stand or beneath a sofa.
A highlight of the lamp is its use of a high-quality silicone case to create uniformly soft light with 100-degree coverage. In plain terms, you won’t notice the bright spots typical of regular light strips.
The lamp is certified as a Matter Extended Color Light, allowing you to toggle, adjust the temperature, hue, and brightness on Matter platforms. SwitchBot noted that it covers a temperature range of 2700 to 6500K and offers over 16 million colors in RGB.
Regarding connectivity, it supports Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and infrared remotes, with compatibility across major smart home platforms, including Google Home, Apple, Alexa, SmartThings, and Home Assistant via cloud integration or Matter.
Currently, the device is exclusive to the Japanese market, priced at 8,480 yen ($58.69) with a discount. SwitchBot told Matter Alpha it will soon be released in other markets, including Europe and the US.
