A new Matter certification from SwitchBot suggests that a Matter version of the Smart Lock Pro may be on the way, according to the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) database.
This development is part of SwitchBot’s continued effort to expand its native Matter offerings, running in parallel with its existing Matter-bridge experience via affordable Bluetooth devices.
The original Smart Lock Pro launched in May of last year, alongside optional keypads supporting fingerprint and visual recognition. However, that version requires a SwitchBot hub to work with Matter platforms. The new certification, filed under the Smart Lock Pro name, signals that a standalone Matter-compatible version is likely coming soon. Currently, the existing model only supports Bluetooth, as shown in its FCC documentation.
Same look, Matter support
The upcoming model appears to retain the same exterior design as the current version, based on images in the CSA database. According to its compliance documentation, the new Smart Lock Pro will use low-power Wi-Fi for Matter connectivity. Its support for the Intermittently Connected Devices (ICD) cluster also indicates optimized performance to balance responsiveness and battery life.
If the internal design remains similar, the lock will likely be powered by four AA batteries or an alternative vendor-supplied battery pack. Due to the addition of Wi-Fi and Matter, battery life may be slightly shorter than the original model’s estimated 12 months. The compliance files confirm support for replaceable batteries and battery level reporting via Matter.
Additionally, the new Smart Lock Pro is certified under Matter 1.4, offering improved connectivity and stability over earlier specifications.
For installation, the lock is designed as a retrofit model, meaning it can transform a traditional door lock into a Matter-compatible smart lock. It supports control via the SwitchBot app, Matter-enabled platforms, and paired SwitchBot keypads. Additional features include door state detection and alarm notifications for added home security.
However, it’s still unknown whether the existing Bluetooth version of Smart Lock Pro will gain native Matter support through a firmware update. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are typically packaged in a single radio chip, and based on available FCC internal photos, the device appears to use Realtek hardware. Some of them do offer such dual connection capabilities. However, without a specific chip model, further details remain unclear.
Currently, the Bluetooth version is priced at $119.99, or $169.99 with the fingerprint keypad. To connect it to Matter platforms, you need a Matter-enabled SwitchBot hub, such as the Hub Mini Matter Enabled.
As of press time, SwitchBot has not responded to inquiries about the new product.
