TP-Link has launched a new Matter-compatible device for the great outdoors under its Tapo smart home subbrand—the P430M Outdoor Smart Dimmer Plug. Available now in the US, the P430M goes beyond traditional smart plug offerings with the inclusion of full dimming and energy monitoring capabilities.
Tapo P430M Outdoor Smart Dimmer Plug: why it matters
Tapo's latest features a sleek all-black two-part design reminiscent of the company's original P400M outdoor smart plug. However, the dimmer plug's frame is considerably slimmer, measuring 2.8 × 3.1 × 1.5 inches, as it only sports one onboard outlet versus the two found on the previous release.

Tapo Smart Outdoor Plug-In Dimmer
The Tapo P430M is a Matter-certified outdoor dimmer plug offering remote app control, energy monitoring, weatherproof durability, voice commands and automated safety shutoffs.
The Tapo P430M can handle up to 300 watts of incandescent lighting loads or 150 watts for LEDs and is IP65 rated for weather resistance. Although it isn't UL-listed, the P430M offers a variety of safety features including overload and overheating protections, and flame-resistant UL94-V0 construction.
Similar to previous Tapo releases, the P430 supports Matter-over-Wi-Fi connectivity and is only compatible with 2.4GHz wireless networks. The dimmer plug does not require an additional hub and it connects directly to Matter ecosystems right out of the box with a scan of a QR pairing code.
Beyond dimming and smart home standards such as scheduling, timers, and the ability to work with other devices through automation, the P430M also features the aforementioned full suite of energy monitoring capabilities. These include detailed history/event logging, as well as real-time consumption data—all accessible through the Tapo app.
According to its CSA listing the P430M is Matter 1.3 certified, but it isn't yet known if its energy monitoring is exposed to Matter.
