Notable smart home device maker ThirdReality introduced two new smart plugs on Monday, with one featuring standard Matter power metering, according to the brand’s social media.
ThirdReality has kept its pace in Matter, releasing new Matter products in parallel with its Zigbee lines to provide both native and bridged Matter options to users.
Smart Plug M1
The smart plug has a standard US plug design that is tiny, short, and wide (6.99 × 3.68 × 4.19 centimeters & 68 grams), which should fit perfectly in US wall outlets. It has a white design, with the toggle button on the side and a status indicator on the front.

The device is rated for 15 amps and a maximum of 1,800 watts, allowing you to use it for more power-consuming appliances (e.g., a refrigerator and water heater).
Certified with the Matter 1.3 specification, the ThirdReality Smart Plug M1 operates on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. With the vendor's Matter controller app, 3R-Installer, users can manage its features and update firmware without needing to register a cloud account or provide further personal information.
The compliance file did not unveil the energy monitoring features, but we would typically expect power usage, voltage, and current to be available on supported Matter platforms. It utilizes an On/Off cluster for power control, so the device could be displayed as a plug or socket in Matter apps by default.
The Smart Plug M1 should work locally via Matter, relying on platforms like Apple Home and Alexa for automation, remote control, and voice commands.
In addition to the M1, there is also a twin model, the Smart Plug M3, which will not support power metering features.

A growing ecosystem
Smart plugs are one of the most popular categories in smart homes, and we are now seeing power metering via Matter trending this year. Eve, Meross, and Tapo (TP-Link) have made the transition to the native Matter standard for their power-metering plugs. Meanwhile, five major Matter ecosystems now support such devices, including Home Assistant, SmartThings, Homey, Aqara, and Ikea.
The ThirdReality Smart Plug M1 is now available on Amazon, priced at $12.99 and $38.99 for one- and four-packs, respectively. Smart Plug M3 is available on ThirdReality official store, priced at $30.99 for a four-pack.
