ThirdReality, known for its Zigbee and Matter-enabled devices, recently teased its upcoming fingerbot switch model MT1, which supports Matter and Thread protocols. This development was shared on social media last Sunday, and it positions the MT1 as one of the first Matter-native fingerbots on the market, joining “Matter-compatible” offerings from brands such as SwitchBot.

The MT1 fingerbot switch is designed to convert traditional wall switches into smart solutions without the need for wiring. Such devices allow users to upgrade their home automation systems quickly and easily, appealing to those who seek convenience in smart home devices.
This new model features a sleek design with rounded edges and a manual trigger button located on the front, similar to the ThirdReality Smart Switch Gen3. It should be compatible with standard US toggle and rocker switches like previous models. The MT1 is categorized as an On/Off Light Switch within the Matter device framework, meaning users will see it represented as a toggle switch or light across prominent Matter platforms.
As earlier exhibitions show, the switch is equipped with an electric motor to assist triggers wall switches. According to ThirdReality, it operates on two readily available AAA batteries, thanks to its low power consumption through Thread protocol, which also simplifies maintenance for users.

MT1 smart switch is another step for ThirdReality as it transitions from Zigbee technology to Matter and Thread support. The vendor has previously introduced a range of devices, usually with icon design or unique feature combos, including a Matter-enabled smart night light that features both motion and light sensors.
ThirdReality also released a tiny-sized Matter bridge Smart Bridge MZ1 allowing users to connect existing Zigbee devices to Matter systems. It expands the functionality of their Zigbee offerings and allows some third-party devices like Ikea and Hue light bulbs to join Matter ecosystems.
