So far, most Matter-controlled smart heating controllers have focused on radiator thermostats and boilers. Warmup are doing something a bit different with the 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat, providing functionality for underfloor heating. Warmup has considerable experience (over 30 years) in this area, so expectations are high for the thermostat.
This appears to be a UK and Europe-only product at this time; note that this region has different heating system protocols in operation than the US.
What does the 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat do?
The 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat appears to be a Matter-compatible revision of the earlier 6iE Smart WiFi Thermostat.
Rather than controlling radiators, the 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat is provided as part of a full underfloor heating solution. Water pipe and electric systems are available from Warmup, with the 7iE its first Matter option. Matter support means that underfloor heating can be controlled from anywhere, with connectivity for Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa, along with other Matter-compatible smart home ecosystems.
Multi-zone or single room control is available, stretching from a single bathroom with electric underfloor heating to larger-scale installations with water underfloor heating. This is controlled via a touchscreen display, which we believe will be available in three shades: onyx black, cloud white, and porcelain, which should suit most decors.
Warmup has introduced a system called SmartGeo, technology that sets efficient temperature schedules for properties, reducing energy usage by as much as 25%. This can clearly lead to significant savings on heating bills.
It also has remote support from Warmup
If you run into problems with the 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat, support is available from Warmup via its Smartcare service. This is an AI-powered support solution that relies on real-time data analysis from the thermostat, and features a 24/7/365 support line with technical assistance.
The 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat is currently available to from Warmup as the controller for a new installation, with quotes provided on demand. However, we’re expecting it to be available as a standalone upgrade to existing underfloor heating systems soon.
