AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) manufacturer Xthings has unveiled the Ulticam IQ line of AI security cameras. Boasting advanced AI video analytics features via integration with Google Gemini, the Ulticam IQ is compatible with Apple Home, Google Home...
...and Matter. But currently, no home security cameras support Matter. So, what is the Ulticam IQ, and where does Matter compatibility come in?
What is the Ulticam IQ?
The main purpose for this unit, unsurprisingly, is as a Wi-Fi security cam. It is being targeted at homeowners and business owners, and is described as “perfect” for monitoring exterior areas of your property (as well as warehouses and parking lots, should you own either).
Where the AI element comes in, according to Xthings’ Director of Ecosystem Business Development and Product Strategy Patrick Serrato, is that rather than relying on basic motion detection and generating false alerts, Ultimcam IQ “understands. From intelligent scene analysis to automated risk assessment, we’re bringing real-time situational awareness and decision-making into the smart home and business.”
Ulticam IQ features
But what about using the device? Well, it has a 7-day rolling free cloud recording subscription, presumably with an upgrade for more advanced features, along with:
-
Intelligent Scene Analysis: Objects, behaviors, and locations are identified in real time, complete with descriptions.
-
Automated Risk Assessment: A threat level is assigned to footage, and notifications can be customized to a specificl level.
-
Daily Summaries: Daily reports are generated, such as: “In the past 24 hours, 2 high-risk events were detected between 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.”
Digging a little deeper, in addition to Gemini AI features, the Ultimcam IQ also includes local camera processing for face and vehicle detection. This is the sort of feature current security cams offer, along with customizable detection zones. It also has a spotlight.
Hardware-wise, the camera comes in 4K and 2K models, with a 160-degree wide-angle field of view. 8GB native storage is upgradeable to 128GB via an SD card, with data stored with AES-256 encryption. Power options include hardwiring, plug-in (DC 12V adapter), and Power-over-Ethernet, and the device supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking, and Bluetooth BLE 5.0.
For outdoor use, the Ulticam IQ is weather-resistant, running at temperatures from -4°F to 122°F. However, no IP rating is stated for water/dust protection.
What about Matter?
All we know about the possible addition of Matter is that it is “coming soon.” Presumably, this would utilize Matter Casting, which is currently only supported by a handful of devices.
