UPDATE: Switchbot formally joins the Home Assistant Certification program with certifications on six devices, the Lock Ultra, Air Purifier, Air Purifier Table, K20+ Pro robot cleaner, and its Hub 2 and Hub devices.
This follows a previous commitment to attain Home Assistant support.
Below is our earlier report on this.
SwitchBot has confirmed the upcoming integration of a big chunk of its product line with Home Assistant. The free and open-source home automation software has recently confirmed Matter certification, and SwitchBot’s announcement is another vote of confidence.
Aiming to give users greater control over their smart home, SwitchBot and Home Assistant seems like the perfect match.
Home Assistant and SwitchBot’s Matter device support
An incredible 45 devices from SwitchBot are being given Home Assistant support, with a sizeable selection of Matter-compatible units among them.
These include (but are not limited to) the SwitchBot Air Purifier and table, SwitchBot Hubs, robot cleaning units, curtain and blind controllers, and various lamps and switches. Some of these use Matter over Wi-Fi, while others rely on Matter bridge functionality. Cloud support via the publicly accessible SwitchBot API is available for greater integration with Home Assistant, and more products will support Matter.
In short, if you plan to use SwitchBot gear to retrofit your existing non-smart devices around your home, they now run through Home Assistant with Matter.
You can find the full list on the SwitchBot Home Assistant compatibility page.
Locally managed automation
We often see terms like interoperability, seamless integration, and collaboration when navigating smart home (and particularly Matter-related) news. This announcement is something a little different, however. While it is clearly a collaboration, it is one that should deliver practical advantages to Home Assistant users.
What is available here is the new ability to created locally managed automation routines, to any level of reasonable intricacy.
It’s not just about connecting smart and dumb devices in a new smart home ecosystem. It also enables you to orchestrate your smart home, determined by your particular needs.
What next for SwitchBot and Home Assistant?
This appears to be a long-term relationship, with a focus on ongoing updates, and a transparent, clear roadmap.
SwitchBot has previously relied on cloud integration, but with Home Assistant compatibility, it appears to recognize that users want data ownership and reliability, not to mention a more user-centric smart home.
SwitchBot and Home Assistant could be leading the way with a brand new Matter-based smart home paradigm.
