Smart home label Aqara has unveiled the Edge Hub M300, a multi-protocol smart home management system. Primarily, the Edge Hub M300 supports Zigbee, Thread, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth, and can manage Matter-enabled smart home devices. In addition, professional-grade smart home and Internet of Things (IoT) hardware using KNX IP, BACnet IP, and Modbus TCP are supported, along with bridging to KNX, Control4, Josh AI, and Nice platforms.

This wide level of compatibility suggests a device and accompanying software that has a number of applications for office complexes, factory/office combos, and large residential areas.

What can the Aqara Edge Hub M300 do?

Incredibly, the Aqara Edge Hub M300 can integrate not only with Aqara hardware, but over 50 Matter devices. So, it could be used to manage EV chargers and robovacs, along with other home appliances. Up to 500 devices can be connected to the M300, making this arguably the most capable Matter-compatible smart home hub around.

By supporting multiple connectivity methods and protocols, the M300 is suitable for smart home experts and installers and professional commercial installers alike. Wired and wireless devices can be integrated, with aircon and other HVAC hardware also supported.

Aqara Studio Connect

With the Aqara Studio Connect user interface, the Aqara Edge Hub goes beyond a standard smart home setup. This control panel, designed exclusively for the M300, enables support and control of smart home hardware at all times. It’s also designed to deliver uninterrupted operation during power outages, with local network support and automation. However, cloud backups are supported, along with local, which is intended to avoid data loss.

Web-based and accessible from anywhere, Aqara Studio Connect offers an impressive management platform, with flow-based automation potentially enabling complex automations without code.

The M300 and Aqara Studio Connect are expected to be released in Q4 2025, and will be demonstrated at IFA 2025, kicking off later this week in the Messe Berlin, Berlin, in Germany.
