Robot cleaners are one of the best additions to any smart home, offering the tantalizing possibility of a life with almost zero manual vacuuming. But they are a relatively new type of device, and far from perfect at this stage.
Which is why it’s good to see innovation in this area, and Dreame has been pushing the robot cleaner form with a number of interesting revisions to the basic “giant puck” design. Its latest upgrade extends the cleaning arms, resulting in a device that wouldn’t look out of place in a Star Wars movie.
In the past few days, the X60 Pro Ultra Complete from Dreame has been released for purchase in the EU, and is set to be compatible with Matter. It’s also launched with a discount, and purchasing before June 11th gets you €200 off, lowering the price to €1,299 from its €1,499 RRP. Note, however, that this robovac is only currently available for purchase in France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands (although we have seen listings offering import to the UK).
Armed: The Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete
Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete
If you’re like me and still using a robot cleaner with an oscillating mop mounted on the underside, or have upgraded to a spinning mop, then you’re behind the times. Robovacs now have arms, and while the headlines have been claimed by things like the Roborock Saros Z70, and its retractible litter-picking arm, I think the Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete (which measures 350mm x 350mm x 89mm) is a more impressive option.
There’s nothing about this demonstration that shouts “student engineering project” – a robot arm collecting discarded tissues or underwear to dispose of accordingly is pretty inefficient, after all. What’s impressive is how the approach to an extending arm on the Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete remains in the realm of the practical.
(Having a robot cleaner does mean picking a few things up off the floor before you activate it, there are no two ways about it.)
Dual-joint robotic arms are the key upgrade that the Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete has over the previous models. The SideReach arm has a 12cm (4.72 inch) range, while the rear MopExtend RoboSwing arm will extend an impressive 18cm (7.09 inch). This flexibility to attack areas beyond the dimensions of the robot cleaner’s chassis makes it particularly attractive where furniture, installations, or unusual walls come into play.
The Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete ships with a docking and cleaning base station (measuring 390mm x 456mm x 499mm) for recharging (there’s a fast 5-minute charge option), bin emptying, and brush cleaning. Meanwhile, the main brush is a HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush 2.0, which should markedly reduce maintenance if you have pets or people with long hair, and the unit has a suction power of 42,000 Pa.
It climbs over obstacles that Matter
Another innovation in robovacs in recent months has been the ability to climb stairs. In my view, this is overkill, a feature in search of a standardized means of elevation. As you will know, every staircase is different, which makes a reliable climb almost impossible. The smart option is a robot cleaner for every floor.
The Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete doesn’t climb stairs, but it does take the rug detection and wheel-based elevation to a new level. The ProLeap chassis can push it up onto obstacles up to 10cm (3.94 inch) in height, which should handle low steps and other quirks in your home layout.
Cameras and “proactive light detection” provide the data for the AI OmniSight System 3.0 which aids navigation, while the Matter integration is stated to be via an upcoming update – it isn’t available out of the box.
You can order the Dreame X60 Pro Ultra Complete via Amazon or the Dreame website, but it is currently only available for sale in the EU. Could this turn out to be one of the best robot cleaners yet?
