Smart lighting vendor Govee is making another clear push into the premium home lighting market, providing more options alongside the budget-friendly smart light sources. The company initially signaled the range at CES showcase earlier this year, where it previewed this specific hardware and a stunning, skylight-like fixture.
Now, that matrix-style model is officially hitting the market as the Govee Ceiling Light Ultra. Designed to transform standard overhead spaces into dynamic living canvases, the new fixture represents the next gen smart lighting Govee delivers to smart homes with Matter support.
Govee Ceiling Light
A dual-zone smart ceiling light with RGBWW and RGBIC output, smart app/voice control, and circadian rhythm features for personalized lighting experiences.
Govee Ceiling Light Ultra
A high-output ceiling light with a high-resolution LED matrix that combines creative pixel-based animations, AI-driven effects, and natural-looking everyday illumination.
A ceiling canvas
The defining hardware feature of the Ceiling Light Ultra is its massive array of 616 high-dense, independently controlled LEDs. According to Govee, this setup provides the highest-density pixel foundation currently available in the consumer smart ceiling light industry.

The fixture utilizes a flat, screen-style matrix design rather than a simple light ring. This engineering choice helps animated visuals appear more natural and significantly less distorted than older lighting panels, allowing the hardware to display distinct figurative lighting effects, complex geometric patterns, and detailed animations.
To power these dynamic visuals, you can use the new Govee AI Lighting Bot 2.0 in the Govee app, a tool that generates custom animated lighting effects simply by typing text prompts into the companion application. It makes pixel-level lighting ideas much more accessible out of the box.
Everyday lighting and DaySync
Beyond the pixel animations, the Ceiling Light Ultra is designed to function as a high-quality primary light source for daily living. It features dual white-light LEDs in both the main array and the ambient backlighting system for a consistent, true-to-life white-light illumination.

The fixture pushes a maximum brightness of 5,000 lumens, making it capable of lighting up living spaces up to 30 square meters. It also maintains a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 95, meaning the light renders colors very accurately, close to how your room settings appear under natural daylight.
To utilize its adjustable color temperatures sweeping from a warm 2,700K up to a bright 6,500K, Govee also introduced a new feature called DaySync (usually named adaptive lighting in other platforms). It automatically adjusts the fixture’s brightness, color, and color temperature throughout the day based on your local time and typical daily routines. By taking over the scheduling, DaySync aims to create a lighting environment that feels much more natural.

If you are an Apple user, be aware that the light does not support Apple Home Adaptive Lighting feature due to its lower Matter 1.3 spec adoption. Govee told Matter Alpha that the team would consider the upgrade depending on user feedback once it hits the market. (See this Apple Matter specification document.)
Matter integration and availability
As mentioned above, the Govee Ceiling Light Ultra runs Matter 1.3 over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. According to the compliance files, it should support basic lighting controls across most Matter ecosystems, including on/off, dimming, hue, and color temperature adjustment. Platform-specific features will vary. For example, SmartThings typically offers a fancy interface and a broader feature set for basic Matter lighting.
The Govee Ceiling Light Ultra is now available through the official Govee website and Amazon, priced at $249.99.
