Home Assistant just released the first beta of its monthly update, which introduces a series of Matter features for a better experience, including expanded configuration and new events for locks and sensors. These updates are primarily contributed by community developers @lboue and @jvmahon, two active developers of Home Assistant’s Matter integration.
A branch of new features
Firstly, following TP-Link’s announcement of its update plan for Matter energy meters, Home Assistant now supports more energy-meter clusters.
Current: ApparentCurrent, ReactiveCurrent, RMSCurrent
Voltage: RMSVoltage
Power: ApparentPower, ReactivePower

Tapo Smart Plug, Energy Monitoring P110M
The Tapo Smart Plug P110M is a Matter-compatible on/off plug-in unit that offers precise energy consumption tracking to 0.001 kWh, with an updated energy monitoring dashboard and customizable power protection settings.
This completes the energy sensor support and enables additional readings from plugs such as the Tapo P110M.
The 2025.9 update also adds support for the vendor cluster of Eve Weather. You can now view weather forecasts from your Eve sensors locally, with any updates appearing in the logs – useful for climate automations or scheduling gardening tasks.

Eve Weather
The Eve Weather is a precision-engineered outdoor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure sensor that supports the Matter standard through its Thread network technology.
For smoke detectors, a new press button has been added for self-testing. Pressing it makes your device sound alarms without climbing up to use the built-in button. Two native smoke detectors – Heiman and Sensereo MS1 – now include this feature. In addition, Home Assistant can recognize four Heiman vendor clusters via the Matter Server add-on 8.1.0: tamperAlarm, preheatingState, noDisturbingState and sensorType.

Heiman Smart smoke sensor
A high-sensitivity smart smoke detector with Matter protocol, offering both local alarms and real-time smartphone notifications.
Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 gains a new sensitivity level option adjustable from 10 mm to 30 mm, defining the minimum distance at which it reports closed. This feature requires a sensor firmware upgrade to version 1.0.2, which Aqara says will be available in two to three weeks. New options for the Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 are not yet supported.

Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2
The Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2, a contact sensor, is a key component of the Aqara smart home ecosystem, offering compatibility with the Matter protocol, enabling seamless integration and control within your smart home network.
Matter valve now exposes three new features to Home Assistant—DefaultOpenDuration, AutoCloseTime and ValveFault (indicating registered valve faults)—according to the GitHub pull request.
Matter door locks can now display how recent lock and unlock events were triggered (for example, biometrics, keypad or remote). This information is useful for security management.
The Matter Refrigerator can report its door-open state to Home Assistant, allowing you to set alarms if it’s accidentally left open.
Other changes include a new icon for ESAState (Energy Smart Appliance State) devices and corrected Apple Thread Border Router vendor icons in the Thread integration.
This release brings numerous enhancements to existing device types. Community contributors and hardware vendors alike are actively adding features for Matter users. Early adopters of Matter-enabled devices such as the Tapo plug and Aqara sensors finally receive new capabilities – a good point that Matter is future-proof, at least for those from top vendors.
