Lennox, a leading vendor within the North American HVAC market, has issued a new firmware update that enables Matter support for its fourth-generation line of smart thermostats. Available now, Lennox L40 and S40 owners can generate a Matter pairing code directly on-device that can be used to bring their thermostats into their favorite smart home ecosystem.
Lennox L40 and S40: why they matter
The addition of the Lennox L40 and S40 is a huge boost for Matter, as up until recently, the standard was lacking in available smart thermostat options. Prior to Lennox joining the bandwagon, Matter fans with whole-home HVAC units were limited to sparse offerings from Nest, Meross, Tado, and Honeywell.
As you might have guessed, the Lennox L40 is the company's entry-level smart thermostat with a simpler four-color touchscreen display and large, easy-to-use controls. The L40 supports single-stage systems and offers Lennox's Schedule IQ Technology that creates a schedule based on household routines, geo-fencing, and desired comfort settings.
The flagship S40 smart thermostat offers a larger, 7-inch HD display that can display the current time, weather conditions, and additional graphics on its screen saver. The S40 also supports additional accessories, including the company's PureAir S Purification System, smart remote room sensors, smart air quality monitors, and wireless extenders.
By updating to Matter, owners of the L40 and S40 will be able to use their smart thermostat alongside their existing devices in ecosystems such as Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Apple Home, and Amazon Alexa. Users can take advantage of hands-free voice controls, as well as the ability to use their devices in scenes, routines, and automation.
How to enable Matter on Lennox Smart Thermostats
According to Lennox's support FAQ, Matter integration requires firmware version 4.38 or higher on the L40 and S40 Smart Thermostats. Once updated and connected to the same Wi-Fi network, users can enable Matter by following the steps below:
- Tap Matter Settings on the main menu.
- Tap Make Discoverable.
- Tap Show Code.
- Scan the QR code with your preferred smart home ecosystem.
Once complete, your Lennox thermostat will display a "Pairing Successful" message on its screen. Your thermostat is now ready for use alongside your existing smart home devices in scenes, routines, and automation.
Lennox L40 and S40: pricing and availability
Lennox L40 and S40 Smart Thermostats are currently available through Lennox certified HVAC dealers in the North American market. While pricing varies depending on the chosen dealer, Lennox's price guide lists the L40 model as $$, and the S40 as $$$$.
Both models are also available through third-party sellers on Amazon, with the L40 currently listed for $249, while the S40 is listed at $707.
