The Aqara W200 thermostat and hub, previously announced in January 2026, has now been released in North America. Offering Matter-enabled control of both HVAC and other devices around the home, the Aqara W200 is the company’s first Matter thermostat for the USA and Canada.

Heating controls with Matter 1.4
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are a growing segment of Matter, with an increasing number of sensors available for integrations. The Aqara W200 is released with the Matter 1.4 specification, which means support for solar power and hybrid solar/battery systems, water heaters, heat pumps, EV supply equipment, and device energy management and modes.

Integration with other Matter-compatible tech is via dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Zigbee. In addition, the Aqara W200 also features mmWave presence detection, which can of course enhance how energy is managed in your home.
With mmWave, human presence (not just movement) is detected, and the Aqara W200 display will activate when approached. The sensor will also use occupancy to set a comfortable temperature. Employing mmWave in sensors like the Aqara W200 means that sleeping and sitting still are not misinterpreted as “absence” and ensures an appropriate temperature is maintained.
As far as Matter multi-admin goes, you can use the Aqara W200 with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, and SmartThings.
However, the device has some additional features beyond Matter. It also supports Apple’s Adaptive Temperature, an AI-driven system that relies on data from an iPhone, Apple Watch, and HomePod to make decisions on HVAC settings. Over time the thermostat should learn to anticipate the correct temperature for your home based on your presence (or otherwise) and activities within it.
The Aqara W200’s hub and display
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this device is its use not just as a hub, but as a display. Physical interaction with the W200 is via a 4-inch color LCD touchscreen, and this does more than simply display temperature or set a target warmth.
The W200 also supports smart lock control and doorbell camera snapshots if you already use Aqara’s video doorbell and smart locks. While the video doorbell is not Matter-compatible (the standard hasn’t quite reached wide support for such devices), Aqara has several smart locks that are.
Beyond that, the unit also doubles as standard hub, enabling the control of other smart hardware around the home.
Aqara W200 installation
In order to demonstrate the simplicity of the Aqara W200, an installation guide has been published. This explores whether the Aqara W200 is compatible with existing HVAC systems, from underlining the importance of its 24VAC requirements (high voltage networks are not compatible and will damage the thermostat) to using Aqara’s compatibility checker app to ensure the correct wiring.
The W200 can also be connected to other Aqara devices, such as the Climate Sensor W100 and Presence Multi-Sensor FP300.

This thermostat and smart home hub combi is now available to buy on Amazon. Note that this device is for North America only. Due to regional differences with HVAC systems, this release of the Aqara W200 is unsuitable for use in the UK and European mainland.
