Australian smart home company SmartSetup has expanded its Matter product lineup with the launch of a new Matter-over-Thread smart wall dimmer designed specifically for the North American market. The all-new SmartSetup Smart Wall Dimmer delivers seamless compatibility with all major Matter-enabled smart home platforms while offering flexible installation options with self-adaptive technology.

Dimming, power monitoring, and Thread Router support

Similar to the company's original smart light switch, the new dimmer features an all-white ABS chassis with a decora-style design headlined by a large, dual-purpose rocker that toggles both power state and brightness. To the right of the rocker is an integrated status bar consisting of 5 individual LEDs that illuminate based on current conditions in 20% increments, providing instant feedback when changes are made.

SmartSetup's latest switch measures 105.5x54.7x40.03mm and is compatible with most dimmable LED, CFL, incandescent, and halogen bulb types with a maximum load of 2.5 amps. The switch supports up to 150 watts for LED bulbs and 300W for incandescent lighting, and it is incredibly energy-efficient, operating at just 0.5 watts.

Additional features include built-in energy monitoring, overload and overheat protections, and SmartSetup's self-adaptive technology. The company says this technology enables the dimmer to operate in installations with or without a neutral wire without compromising functionality.

In a statement to Matter Alpha, SmartSetup confirmed that the device continues to function as a Thread Router in both wiring configurations, making it the first Matter-over-Thread wall dimmer to offer this capability. And, as always with Matter, the dimmer switch works with all the major smart home ecosystems, including Apple Home, Alexa, SmartThings, HomeAssistant, Homey, and Google Home.

The SmartSetup Smart Wall Dimmer is now available for purchase through Amazon in the United States, with the earliest deliveries beginning mid to late July. The switch is currently priced at $39.00 each, and will also be available in the Canadian market soon.

New Matter-over-Thread smart relay also in the works

Smartsetup voltage free relay lifestyle

In addition to the dimmer, SmartSetup has also announced that pre-orders will be opening soon for a new "voltage-free" Matter-over-Thread relay. According to SmartSetup, the upcoming smart relay features a compact ABS frame measuring just 45x45x20mm, and is designed for a wide variety of applications, including lighting, boilers, water heaters, valves, and more.

The relay appears to be a single-channel unit, and its technical specifications indicate that it supports up to 10A, 250VAC or 10A, 30VDC electrical loads. Glancing at the relay's CSA certification provided by SmartSetup also reveals that it was certified against the Matter 1.4 standard back in October of last year.

As with the dimmer, the SmartSetup Smart Voltage Free Relay will be priced at $39.00 at launch. If you are interested in the relay, you can sign up for email alerts at smartsetup.com.au to be notified when pre-orders go live.
