Smart lock maker Xthings is bringing the Aliro access standard to its ULTRALOQ lineup. The company said on Monday several deadbolt and latch-style smart locks have achieved Aliro certification, enabling digital keys stored directly in smartphone wallets for a tap-to-unlock experience.
The newly certified hardware
Xthings previously previewed its Aliro plans during CES 2026, positioning it as a shift toward a more integrated entry experience. The new certification confirms those plans with a defined set of models. The lineup includes Latch 3, Latch 5 Pro, Latch 7, Latch 7 Pro, and Bolt Pro, covering both latch-style and deadbolt designs.

These locks focus on NFC-based access for a consistent “tap-to-unlock” experience. Supported mobile wallet platforms include Samsung Wallet, but it works as part of a broader system rather than a standalone layer. For Samsung users, SmartThings and Matter handle device onboarding and credential management, while the wallet presents the digital key for local access.
This setup keeps the user experience simple while maintaining compatibility with existing smart home platforms. It also avoids the need for dedicated lock apps, since access credentials are tied to the phone’s system-level wallet instead of vendor software.
How Aliro and Matter work together
Aliro and Matter are both developed under the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), but they address different parts of the system.
Matter handles device setup, communication, and credential management across ecosystems. This is what allows the lock to be added to platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, and SmartThings, depending on support. Aliro focuses on the access layer. It defines how digital keys are stored in mobile wallets and how they are used locally to unlock the door. For the current ULTRALOQ models, that interaction is based on NFC.
Xthings confirmed in a recent briefing with Matter Alpha that the new models rely on Matter for backend credential handling, which Aliro then uses for the wallet-based unlock process. In this structure, Matter manages the identity and permissions, while Aliro standardizes how the user interacts with the lock.
Commercial and smart building applications
Xthings’ Aliro adoption is notable beyond consumer smart locks because the company also works in broader access control through Xthings One and related solutions. That does not mean Aliro support is already confirmed across its full commercial portfolio. However, it gives Xthings a clearer path to extend the standard beyond ULTRALOQ hardware if support is added in future updates.
In larger environments such as multifamily housing, offices, and hospitality, access control typically requires issuing, updating, and revoking credentials across many users and doors. Aliro’s wallet-based approach could fit into these scenarios by using the credential infrastructure already built into smartphones.
If Xthings expands Aliro support into more of its access control lineup, it could help populate the standard beyond single-home use and into broader deployments.
UWB and availability
The current Aliro-certified models focus on NFC, but Xthings is also preparing future hardware. According to details shared with Matter Alpha, a new model, likely under the Bolt series, is under consideration that will add Ultra Wideband (UWB) support for Aliro. With UWB, the new model could enable more precise positioning and support hands-free unlocking, allowing the lock to detect a user’s approach without requiring a tap.
Aliro-enabled ULTRALOQ smart locks will be available through the official ULTRALOQ website, select retail partners, and authorized security and smart home integrators, according to the announcement.
