Notable smart light vendor Yeelight was recently highlighted by the Thread Group for achieving Thread certification on a new color light bulb on social media.
This development follows our earlier discovery of Yeelight’s Thread radio module listed in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database. As one of the top brands delivering high-quality lighting, especially within its Pro family, Yeelight’s entry into the Thread ecosystem brings more high-CRI lighting options to the smart home market.
Yeelight Thread progress
Yeelight has two Thread-certified lighting products so far: Yeelight Pro Torkey Smart RGBCW LED bulb and Yeelight RGBlC Smart LED Neon Rope Light. Both were certified under Thread 1.3 specifications.
The light bulb, model YLQPD-0024, supports both tunable white and RGB color modes and is designed to pair with a dedicated smart switch for control. The “Pro” branding suggests it’s part of Yeelight’s high-end lineup, which currently relies on Bluetooth and a gateway for connectivity. That gateway, known as Yeelight Pro Gateway S20, also serves as a Matter bridge, enabling Bluetooth-based lights and switches to work with Matter platforms. For compatibility with existing setups, the new bulb may still support BLE Mesh, or Yeelight could be planning a new Thread-enabled gateway.
The Yeelight RGBlC Smart LED Neon Rope Light, certified in late 2024, should resemble a flexible light strip like offerings from Govee and Nanoleaf. It offers Thread connectivity and a soft, bendable exterior for custom installations. According to the certification details, it measures 32.8 feet and features a white outer casing.
Both products are said to support Matter and Apple HomeKit, per the Thread Group certification listings. We expect more clarity once the devices complete their Matter certification.
Previous findings confirmed that Yeelight’s upcoming Thread devices are based on Silicon Labs’ MG21 radio chip, which features 1,024 KB of flash and 96 KB of RAM, hardware commonly used in other high-performance Thread devices.
Availability
Thread certification is a prerequisite for Matter certification, and as of now, Yeelight has not yet obtained Matter certification for either product. This means consumers may need to wait a bit longer. Yeelight is listed as an exhibitor at IFA 2025, so it’s possible we’ll see a demo at their booth in September.
As of press time, Yeelight has not responded to Matter Alpha’s request for comment.
