Owl Wired

Owl Wired combines several home-safety and environmental sensors in one compact, circular ceiling or wall-mounted device. Alongside photoelectric smoke and electrochemical carbon monoxide detection, it monitors motion, sound, temperature, humidity, and air quality, reducing the need for separate sensors around the home.

A microwave RADAR motion sensor can detect activity in a room, while the climate sensors provide ongoing information about indoor conditions. Motion can also activate Owl’s Pathlight, providing illumination when someone passes underneath the device. For audible and visual warnings, Owl Wired incorporates an 89 dB buzzer, a small speaker, and a ring of six multi-color LEDs.

The detector connects over Wi-Fi and can send sensor information and alerts to the Owl Home mobile app. It also works with Apple Home, Google Home and IFTTT, allowing its sensor readings to become part of a wider connected-home system. The microphone includes a physical power switch for users who prefer to disable sound monitoring.

Unlike a standalone battery detector, Owl Wired is designed for a permanent power connection and contains a rechargeable 2,500 mAh lithium battery for backup during an outage. A third interconnect wire lets it work alongside traditional interconnected smoke alarms, so an alarm elsewhere in the home can be surfaced through Owl’s connected system. A USB-C power connection also broadens its usefulness to settings such as RVs.
