Aqara has made significant strides in Matter by announcing a major update to its Aqara Home platform, officially supporting Matter 1.4. This positions Aqara among the elite few platforms, including SmartThings and Home Assistant (currently in beta), to embrace the latest Matter standard. This move reflects the company’s commitment to interoperability within smart home ecosystems.
New device types
The update notably expands Aqara’s compatibility with over 40 new Matter device types, greatly enhancing the functionalities available to users. Among the newly supported device types are:
• Dimmable plugs
• Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
• Air quality sensors
• Leak, freeze, and rain sensors
• Curtains and shades
• Fans and air purifiers
• Air conditioners and heat pumps
• Water valves and pumps
• Pressure sensors
• Vehicle chargers
• Laundry appliances, including washers and dryers
• Refrigerators
• Cooktops, hoods, and surfaces
• Ovens and stoves
• Water heaters
• Video players and speakers
• Solar panels and battery storage solutions
As device types like solar panels and heat pumps showed up, the spec would be at least on Matter 1.4, the most recent one. An open document for developer from Aqara’s community noted that energy management would also be supported by the platform.
Additional features
The update also extends the Advanced Matter Bridging capability to all Aqara Matter controllers. It allows users to connect advanced features of Aqara devices – such as real-time AI detection and automated triggers – with third-party Matter platforms, enabling more complex and customized smart home scenes.
Moreover, Aqara mentions that “Thread communication across LANs is under development, and its availability is expected in Q2 2025.” It enables border routers capability to communicate across different LANs to increase reliability.
Supported Aqara Matter controllers
Users will be able to access these enhancements through several supported Aqara Matter Controllers, including:
• Hub M3
• Camera Hub G5 Pro
• Hub M100
• Doorbell Camera Hub G410
• Hub M2
• Hub M1S and M1S Gen 2
• Hub E1
• Camera Hub G3
The rollout is set to begin later this month, with users required to update their firmware to version 4.3.5 for their Matter Controllers and the Aqara Home app to version 5.1.4 or newer to utilize all new features.
