A new Matter certification from Eve surfaced on the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) database for the Light Switch EU on Wednesday, signaling that an update is around the corner for the existing HomeKit version.
The certification follows its sister product, the Shutter Switch EU, which launched last month, suggesting the Matter firmware is now ready for these devices to migrate from HomeKit. As with other Eve products, we may soon see a new native Matter version replacing current SKUs.
Considering the switch was initially released in 2021, it marks a long-term agenda for Eve to bring its whole HomeKit Thread product line to Matter, enabling local connectivity with major smart home platforms.
Features with Matter firmware
Similar to the Eve Shutter Switch, the Matter firmware will enable basic on/off control for the device, according to the compliance files. Identification and group control features are also available via standard Matter 1.4.1 specs.
However, the Matter binding feature is partly missing in this certification, meaning you won’t be able to use the switch as a trigger device to control another Matter product, like a light or plug, directly. That also means you can’t create an n-way switch setup natively via binding.
The OTA Software Update cluster is included, indicating the light switch will be able to receive firmware updates directly via Matter platforms like Apple Home, Home Assistant, and SmartThings.

Smart Thread light switch with built-in scheduling, and no bridge or cloud dependency.
How to update?
As of press time, the firmware (version 3.6.0) has already been uploaded to the Matter DCL, signaling it’s ready for release. However, you’ll still need the Eve app to perform the update. Ideally, add the switch to Apple Home, then use the Eve app to check for and install the update. The migration typically takes over 10 minutes. Once complete, Eve will generate a new QR code for Matter setup and guide you through adding the switch back to Apple Home.
There have been several reports of compatibility issues between the Eve app and iOS 26 beta, so avoid using beta versions of Apple Home hubs or iOS/iPadOS for the update, as it may result in unexpected problems.
If you haven’t yet purchased the switch, you’ll have two options soon: buy the current HomeKit model and upgrade it using the Eve app, or wait for new units with Matter firmware pre-installed to arrive on the market.
