Eve Systems has released a new update that brings performance improvements and implements Matter 1.3 specifications for its line of Motionblind products.
Eve's Motionblind family includes Matter-compatible window blinds from Eve's made-to-order Custom Blinds Collection as well as its DIY Upgrade Kit for existing roller shades.
What's new for Eve Motionblinds?
As we just mentioned, the latest update—version 3.5.1—bumps Eve's Motionblinds up to Matter 1.3 which was released back in November 2024. Although it isn't the current Matter 1.4 release, the step-up improves performance and reliability for the Motionblinds which should also contribute to greater overall stability for associated Thread networks.

The Eve MotionBlinds motorize your window coverings with a rechargeable battery, enabling control via app, Siri, or manual pull, and are compatible with the Matter standard through Bluetooth and Thread technology.
In addition, the new update also contains numerous bug fixes. Only one fix is specifically mentioned in Eve's release notes—improved battery status indication mechanisms—however, it is a big one for Motionblind owners as users have been plagued by frequent "low battery" warnings through ecosystems like Apple Home even when they were fully charged.
Finally, Eve's Motionblind update also enables setup and local control from Thread-enabled iPhone 15 Pros and most iPhone 16 models. According to Eve, this feature allows users running iOS 18 or later to pair and interact directly with the Motionblinds and even create schedules that run entirely on-device when used with the Eve app.
How do I update my Eve Motionblinds?
As with other Matter device updates, you'll first need to have your Motionblinds paired with a compatible Matter Controller and ecosystem—such as HomeAssistant, SmartThings, and Apple Home. While the process varies between platforms, you'll generally need to head into the device's settings to check for and perform the update.
For Apple Home users, our handy step-by-step guide How to Update Matter Devices in the Apple Home app will walk you through the entire process. And, as always, the update may take a few days/weeks to become available for your platform, and you may need to reboot your Matter Controllers before it appears.
Eve and Matter: What's next?
With today's release—and previous updates to the Eve Weather and Eve Energy earlier this year—Eve continues to show that it is committed to Matter.
So what's next from Eve? While nothing is guaranteed, we are hoping to see the Eve Water Guard, Eve Aqua Smart Water Controller, Eve Flare lamp, and Eve Room climate sensor make the leap to Matter soon.
