Swedish furniture giant Ikea just released a major update to its Dirigera Smart Hub, adding critical features to the built-in Matter Bridge, along with bug fixes.

The update – version 2.866.3 – adds water leak detectors and power meters support for the Matter bridge, completing Ikea’s plan to bring its existing Zigbee lines to Matter, including the BADRING water leak sensor and INSPELNING plug.

Quick take

The update means a lot to the Zigbee and Matter ecosystems, as Ikea adopts the standard Zigbee spec (mostly). So in theory, all standard Zigbee water leak sensors and power meters can be bridged to Matter via the Ikea Dirigera Hub with the Matter 1.3 spec. And Matter Bridge options are rare on the market with support for these two device types.

I have tested some of the devices I have and most of them worked pretty well with Ikea.

In addition to the Ikea BADRING, the third-party water leak sensor Sonoff 05P and the ThirdReality Water Leak Sensor (3RWS18BZ) can be added and exposed to Home Assistant, SmartThings, as well as Apple Home correctly. The battery level is also accessible through Matter platforms.

I also tested three plugs with the new firmware: the Ikea INSPELNING plug, Sonoff S60ZB, and a Somfy AU/CN plug (1822647). They can all be exposed as an “On/Off Plug-in Unit” in Matter smart home platforms. The former two can display current, voltage, energy consumption, and power, while the Somfy plug only displays power in Home Assistant.

Water leak detectors are now supported on Apple Home, Home Assistant, SmartThings, and Google Home. As for power meters, there are at least six ecosystems that show support, including Aqara, SmartThings, Homey, Home Assistant, and Ikea.

You can get the Dirigera update via the Ikea Home Smart app; it should take a few minutes to complete once you initiate the download. Once it’s successfully updated, newly added device types will show up on connected Matter platforms automatically.

There is also a minor change in its Thread Border Router. Ikea changed the default vendor name from “OpenThread” to “IKEA”, suggesting it is passing Thread certification. Once my pull request is approved, Home Assistant can display the correct icon.

A wrapping up

This is another move to get the platform ready for the upcoming Matter and Zigbee dual-protocol devices. It ensures the same features no matter what protocol users choose to use.

As our earlier reports unveiled, there will be at least seven new devices coming for the first batch. The work-in-progress range includes five sensors and two programmable switches:

  • TIMMERFLOTTE temperature and humidity sensor

  • MYGGSPRAY motion sensor

  • MYGGBETT contact sensor

  • BILRESA dull button shortcut

  • BILRESA scroll wheel

  • ALPSTUGA air quality monitor

  • KLIPPBOK water leak detector

Ikea announced in a press release that the new Matter products would start to be released in January 2026.
