After the availability of the brand new 21 Matter devices from IKEA, more devices saw progress with Matter support from the furniture giant. The new certifications, listed on the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) database, show four new devices are coming soon from IKEA. These include the recently announced VARMBLIXT pendant lamp and VARMBLIXT table/wall lamp, along with a new light driver DUBBELKISEL to replace the aging TRADFRI line.
DUBBELKISEL light driver
The most significant development is the introduction of the DUBBELKISEL light driver. This new hardware is positioned as the native Matter successor to the popular TRADFRI driver series, which has served as the backbone for IKEA’s under-cabinet and wardrobe lighting systems for years. The new driver is rated at 30 watts, matching the capabilities of the existing lineup, but with a completely overhauled connectivity stack.

According to Thread Group certifications, the DUBBELKISEL driver will come in four distinct variations to cover both 15-watt and 30-watt power requirements across European and North American markets. Crucially, these drivers are listed with support for the latest Thread 1.4 specification. This suggests that the devices will function as decent Thread routers, which are always-on nodes that actively extend and strengthen the smart home mesh network.
This creates a unique advantage for the smart home infrastructure. Because these drivers are typically mounted on top of kitchen cabinets or inside wardrobes, they are ideally positioned to act as reliable network “repeaters”, helping signals bypass obstacles like refrigerators or thick walls.

The filings from TÜV Rheinland identify the device as radio equipment and an LED power supply, confirming its role in the ecosystem. It is expected to utilize the same 24-volt power system and 2-pin JST connectors as the current TRADFRI line. This backward compatibility is essential, as it would allow long-time IKEA customers to upgrade their smart home connectivity to Matter simply by swapping the driver unit, without the need to rewire their entire kitchen or replace the LED strips themselves.

In Matter, the new DUBBELKISEL offers basic on/off and brightness level control, similar to how previous TRADFRI drivers functioned when connected via the DIRIGERA Hub.
VARMBLIXT lamp duo
In addition to the cabinet lighting upgrades, IKEA is expanding its VARMBLIXT collection with native Matter support. The collection, known for its sculptural glass designs, will see a new pendant lamp and a table/wall lamp join the ecosystem. Unlike standard bulbs, these fixtures integrate the light source and connectivity directly into the design.

The pendant lamp, identified in filings as model E2516, has passed Thread certification under the 1.3 specification. FCC filings for the device reveal a clear Matter QR code sticker on the top housing, indicating a simple scan-to-pair setup process. The label data suggests a power rating of approximately 10 watts, which typically translates to a brightness between 800 and 1,000 lumens.

Notably, the FCC documents confirm that these lamps will maintain dual-connectivity radios. While they communicate with smart home platforms via Matter over Thread, they appear to retain Zigbee radios to communicate directly with accessories like the BILRESA remote.
BILRESA scroll wheel
A tactile scroll-wheel remote that lets you adjust light brightness, colour, and scenes with a simple turn or press.
BILRESA Remote Control with Dual Button
A simple, two-button remote that lets you control smart lighting functions like power, brightness, colour, and scenes from anywhere nearby.
This hybrid approach ensures that physical controls remain responsive and reliable, even if the broader smart home network encounters issues.

Matter certifications indicate that the two devices will appear as Extended Color Light within Matter platforms, offering users control over both brightness and color. This aligns with the demonstration seen at the IKEA booth during CES earlier this year. According to the company’s previous announcements, the new VARMBLIXT versions are scheduled to arrive in stores starting in April, marking the next phase in the retailer’s aggressive transition toward a Thread-first smart home portfolio.
