Ikea officially released 21 new smart home devices with native Matter support on Thursday, covering a wide range of lighting, sensors, and control devices. The release follows recent efforts to make its DIRIGERA hub a complete Matter platform, including bridging its Zigbee devices, adding Matter Controller support, and activating its Thread Border Router.

“This launch is about making the smart home experience better and broader. We’re upgrading our most-appreciated products while also adding new ones to solve even more everyday challenges. Our focus has been on keeping things simple from setup to daily use, so it’s easy for people to start, use and grow a smart home,” says Stjepan Begic, Product Developer at Ikea of Sweden.

The official launch also makes Ikea one of the largest Matter ecosystem as well as Matter device makers, committing to the standard since its Matter Bridge addition to DIRIGERA in 2024. It is also a turning point as Matter devices become more affordable thanks to a maturing supply chain and pressure from Ikea on its competitors.

Here is a detailed intro of the new Matter product lines from Ikea.

KAJPLATS

KAJPLATS (translated as “Quay” or “Berth”) is the new lighting range replacing the classic TRADFRI bulbs. This is a huge upgrade, as the new product line features dual-protocol support, meaning the bulbs are equipped with both Matter-over-Thread and Zigbee radios. This allows them to be paired directly with any Matter-over-Thread controller, like an Apple HomePod, or to be used with Ikea’s own DIRIGERA hub via Zigbee, offering maximum flexibility.

As of the binding capabilities, Ikea told Matter Alpha that “While binding between Matter products is technically possible, it’s not yet implemented in our range. For users, this is not a limitation today, as all our new lamps and remotes support Zigbee Touchlink, allowing for direct control without a hub. The exception is our sensors, which require connection through the hub.”

Availability

While Ikea noted that pricing and availability will vary by market, the new Matter products are expected to show up in stores as early as this month in some countries, as Ikea told The Verge. For the US market, the smart remotes and sensors will be available in Ikea stores starting in January 2026, while the KAJPLATS smart bulbs will debut in April 2026.

Ikea told Matter Alpha that in the UK, the eleven KAJPLATS bulbs will range between 4 ($5.24) and 9 pounds (TRADFRI was 7 and 10 pounds), while remotes will cost 3 pounds for dual button and 4 pounds for scroll wheel. TIMMERFLOTTE will be 5 pounds, APLSTUGA air quality sensor will be 25 pounds, and KLIPPBOK, MYGGBET, MYGGSPRAY, all will be 7 pounds.

Ikea has yet to announce pricing for other markets at the moment.
