Smart lighting company Lifx has introduced a new, more affordable A19 smart bulb, the “Lifx Every Day”, in a strategic move similar to competitor Philips Hue’s lower-priced Essential series.
A two-pack of the new Matter-compatible bulb retails for $23.45, a significant price reduction from the roughly $35 cost of the company’s previous 800-lumen color models.
The launch marks a key shift for Lifx, a company that carved out its niche in the market by offering hub-free, Wi-Fi-based bulbs known for their exceptional brightness and vibrant color saturation. While historically focused on the premium end of the market, the new “Every Day” bulb sees Lifx bringing its core technology to a more budget-friendly segment.

The new Lifx Every Day bulb offers a solid set of features for its price point, with some important technical details to consider.
It produces 800 lumens, a standard brightness equivalent to a traditional 60-watt incandescent bulb, making it suitable for general room lighting. The bulb offers a full spectrum of colors and a wide range of tunable whites from a warm 2,700K to a cool 6,500K. Its Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 90 is decent for accurately representing the colors of objects in a room, which is even higher than Hue bulbs. But there would be a slight compromise in power-efficiency generally speaking.

A key feature is its direct Wi-Fi connectivity, which simplifies setup by eliminating the need for a proprietary hub or bridge. The bulb connects to the 2.4 GHz band and is compatible with modern Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) routers, which can improve connection reliability in homes crowded with many smart devices. This Wi-Fi 6 support also suggests the bulb is powered by a modern chipset Espressif ESP32-C6, which is more future-proof for Matter.
Native Matter support ensures the bulb works out-of-the-box with all major smart home platforms, including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.
The bulb is energy efficient, consuming 8.8W at full brightness and just 0.2W on standby. Its long rated lifespan of 25,000 hours translates to over 13 years of use at five hours per day. A critical limitation, however, is its 120V AC design, which restricts its sale and use to markets like the United States, Canada, Japan, and Taiwan.
