After a rather slow start, which saw only a handful of releases over the emerging standards' first few years, Matter-compatible ceiling lights are now quickly becoming one of the hottest categories in smart home lighting. Following recent launches from companies like Govee and SwitchBot, Nanoleaf is the latest to join the trend with its new Smart Multicolor Ceiling Light—a hardwired overhead fixture that spreads millions of colors across multiple modes and lighting zones.

Nanoleaf's new 14-inch light features a slim, low-profile circular design that protrudes just 1.45 inches from the ceiling with a flush installation. Similar to the Govee Ceiling Light Ultra, Nanoleaf's offering sports a dual-sided lighting system with 3 unique lighting modes that cast light in multiple directions—downward via the main front light, upward through a diffused back light, and both directions simultaneously with a combination of its front and back light.
Underneath the hood are 364 addressable RGBCW+RGBIC LEDs and 28 distinct color zones capable of producing over 16 million hues, hundreds of dynamic effects, and tunable white temperatures between 2200-6500K. The onboard LEDs are also RG0 Low Blue Light certified, which, according to Nanoleaf, helps to reduce daily eye strain and blue light hazards, making it a good fit for indoor environments such as bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, hallways, and home offices.
Other tech specs include a Color Rendering Index of 95, 2,600 lumens of peak brightness, so you can expect not just brightness from the colors, but accuracy, too. It also has a 25,000-hour life expectancy, and when it comes to energy efficiency, the fixture draws 0.5 watts while in standby and between 4 and 28 W depending on the active light mode.
As with other recent Nanoleaf product launches, the new ceiling light forgoes Thread in favor of hub-free 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, making it more accessible to a wider range of home networks. While Nanoleaf recommends pairing the light directly to the company's mobile app before adding it to Matter ecosystems, users can access basic functionality right out of the box through Apple Home, SmartThings, Alexa, and Google Home with just a scan of its included QR code.
Through the Nanoleaf app, users will find advanced options like music syncing, dynamic scenes, custom color palettes, and the company's Circadian Rhythm feature—the Apple Home Adaptive Lighting-esque mode that changes color temperatures automatically throughout the day. And for more control, the ceiling light is also compatible with Nanoleaf's Sense+ Smart Wireless Switch, giving owners a physical way to toggle power state and scenes directly from the wall.
