Samsung has confirmed the release of the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 for US customers. Already available in some territories, this hub supports Matter and Thread, as well as Zigbee 3.0. However, it does not appear to have Z-Wave certification.

This upgrade to the original Aeotec Smart Home Hub features a number of hardware revisions.

The Aeotec Smart Home Hub is a Wi-Fi connected device that serves as the heart of your smart home, compatible with thousands of devices from hundreds of brands, enabling broad customization, seamless integration, and robust security, all controlled through the SmartThings app on Android, iOS, and iPadOS.
At the heart is a 900 MHz CPU and 512MB of RAM (the previous model had just 256MB), and the device is 70% faster at processing complex automations and handling large device networks. It can control up to 150 Zigbee devices and 1000+ Matter-certified smart home devices, and the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 is the first hub with confirmed Matter camera support.
Connectivity-wise, it supports Matter, Thread, and Zigbee 3.0, with Ethernet and Wi-Fi network access, and Bluetooth BLE for quick setups. There is USB-A for expansion options (possibly a Z-Wave dongle?) and power is over USB-C. The hub ships with a wall mounting kit.
Voice control support is for Bixby, Alexa, and Google Home. It also has a built-in Home Monitor to provide water/smoke alerts, air quality updates, and energy-saving automations.
Crucially, the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 has support for SmartThings Pro, for use in BCB and large-scale environments like apartments and offices. This seems to be a pattern for smart home hubs in 2025, and follows a similar move with the Aqara Hub M300.

A multi-protocol, Matter-compatible hub that manages up to 500 devices, suitable for both advanced smart homes and professional automation setups.
Mixed reaction to this SmartThings hub
The absence of Z-Wave support has not been well-received in the SmartThings community forums. With many early adopters relying on a mix of Z-Wave, Zigbee, and Thread for their smart homes, the expectation is that – thanks to Matter’s philosophy – support for older technologies should be continued until the devices are no longer operational.
Forcing retirement of older IoT and smart home tech simply by excluding its protocol is not a great way to minimize landfill.
The Aeotec Smart Home Hub is expected to be released on October 30th – register your interest on the SmartThings partner website.
