New Matter water leak detector surfaces on social media
PuzL Labs is developing PuzL Detect, a Matter-native water leak detector with temp/humidity sensing and rope probe, which could be first of its kind.

PuzL Labs, a smart home solution provider, appears to be developing a Matter smart home compatible water leak detector called PuzL Detect, based on product details listed on its official website and a leak from Matter-focused account @CyberModStudio.
What is the PuzL Detect?
The device, named PuzL Detect - Smart Water Detection, is designed to monitor for water leaks, freezing temperatures, and high humidity, sending real-time alerts to connected smart home platforms. According to the product description, it features long battery life, secure communication, and easy configuration within Matter-compatible systems. So it should be a Matter end device with water leak detector, and thermometers built-in, which is a less common but useful combo.
Photos on the site show a rope-style probe, which allows for extended detection coverage – suitable for use under sinks, near appliances, or around plumbing. The device also supports wall-mounted installation and is battery-powered, suggesting it may use Thread for low power operation and efficient connectivity. However, no official specification has confirmed the communication protocol yet.
@CyberModStudio noted that the device is currently in internal testing without additional technical details.
Water leak sensors with native Matter support are still absent from the market. Several vendors – including Arre (formerly Tuo), SmartThings, and Heiman – have announced or saw plans to release such devices, but none are yet commercially available. If launched, the PuzL Labs device could become one of the first native Matter water leak detectors on the market.

Currently, users seeking water detection in Matter setups often rely on indirect solutions. Some Zigbee leak sensors can be integrated using Matter bridges, such as Aqara Hubs. Others have used generic binary sensors or repurposed door/window sensors to report leak detection for maximum compatibility in platforms that support Matter 1.2 or later.

The Aqara Hub M100 is a compact, entry-level Matter Controller with Wi-Fi, Thread, Zigbee, and USB-A power, serving as a Thread Border Router and Matter bridge for Aqara and third-party devices.
PuzL Labs identifies itself as a designer and manufacturer of smart home and commercial automation products. The Smart Water Detection sensor is not yet listed as Matter-certified, and no launch timeline has been provided. As of the press time, the firm has yet to respond to Matter Alpha’s inquiries.
