The Shelly Group has announced the release of an all-new Matter-compatible smart plug today for the North American market. The new Shelly Plug US Gen4 aims to be the ultimate home automation solution by combining multiple connectivity options and features all at an affordable price.

Available in white and black finishes, the Shelly Plug US Gen4 sports a slim, minimalist plastic design that allows multiple units to be plugged into the same outlet. As with most Matter-compatible smart plugs, Shelly's latest offering supports 15A electrical loads up to 1,500 watts, making it suitable for small appliances, space heaters, and lighting.
However, unlike other smart plugs with plastic construction, Shelly's plug is UL-listed and meets EU safety standards with overheating, overvoltage, and overcurrent protections. Shelly's plug also supports energy monitoring, providing insights into the consumption of connected appliances and devices.
Shelly's new plug also separates itself from the pack with an onboard dimmable color LED light that can be synced to indicate current energy usage. In addition, the LED can be automatically toggled throughout the day with a built-in ambient light sensor, works as a status light for other smart home devices, and can be controlled on demand independently.
Alongside support for Matter and the most popular smart home assistants and ecosystems, the Shelly Plug US Gen4 offers multiple wireless connectivity protocols right out of the box. Users can choose to connect the plug over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Zigbee through a series of on-device button combinations, and it acts as a signal repeater, extender, or gateway for the chosen protocol.
