Self-described Matter accessory innovator, SmartSetup, is once again expanding their product lineup with today's release of a new 8-in-1 multifunctional smart door lock. Announced today via Facebook, the SmartSetup Matter-over-Thread Smart Door Lock features an integrated video doorbell with an indoor display, fingerprint recognition, NFC, and much more.

From what we can tell, the SmartSetup Matter Over Thread Smart Door Lock appears to be designed for markets that utilize Mortise-style locks on entry doors. The lock sports a black finish with aluminum construction, and it should be well-protected from the elements with an IP65 weather-resistance rating and an operating temperature range of -20~70 degrees Celsius.
The outer portion of the lock is home to a small camera and face recognition components near the top, a tiny LCD presumably for personalizing greetings, a keypad with an NFC card reader underneath (cards are included with purchase), a fingerprint scanner, an emergency keyhole, and a USB port. Specifications for the lock list that up to 50 fingerprints and 50 key codes can be stored, and its onboard camera can recognize hand and palm gestures for effortless home access.
The inner half of the lock has a compact digital display that shows a real-time feed of guests on the other side of the door, knobs for a fire lock and deadbolt, and two buttons for adjusting its current lock state. The entire unit is powered by an internal rechargeable 8.4-volt lithium battery, and while SmartSetup doesn't provide estimated battery life, it looks as though it can be topped off easily with the included USB cable.
As with most smart products from the company—like the recently released smart relay, lamp, and water leak sensor—the new door lock requires a Thread Border Router and a Matter Controller for operation. According to SmartSetup, the lock works with any ecosystem that supports Matter and specifically mentions compatibility with Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and Apple Home locally without an internet connection.

It is currently unclear as to how many of its features are exposed to Matter, leaving us to suspect that it only offers basic lock/unlock functionality at this time. The product pages do not list Aliro, Apple HomeKey, or Matter camera integration, but SmartSetup proclaims that "Firmware updates and improvements are part of our product life cycle", a statement that they appear to be backing up as seen with an update last June that brought its light switches and outlets up to Matter 1.4.

The SmartSetup Matter Over Thread Smart Door Lock is available for purchase today directly from smartsetup.com.au for $349 AUD. With its abundance of features, it's no surprise that the new release is significantly more expensive than the company's previous smart door lock solutions, with its smart handle retailing for $99 and its deadbolt for $119—both of which are also available now.
