SwitchBot Lock Vision is a smart deadbolt designed as a full hardware replacement rather than an add-on over an existing lock. Its defining feature is 3D structured-light facial recognition, which projects thousands of infrared dots onto a user’s face to generate a detailed depth map. This allows the lock to tell the difference between a real person and flat images or video, reducing the risk of spoofing. The facial recognition system works across different lighting conditions and can identify users even when they are wearing glasses, hats, or makeup. All biometric data is processed and stored locally on the device to maintain privacy.
To balance advanced sensing with reliability, the lock uses a dual-power design. A large rechargeable battery handles daily operation, while a secondary backup battery ensures continued access if the main power source runs out. Power usage is further optimized with millimeter-wave radar that keeps the system in a low-energy state until someone approaches the door, at which point the sensors activate.
