Habi launches Matter over Thread thermostat kit with Screwfix

Smart home startup Habi has entered the market with the launch of its new Matter Wireless Room Thermostat Kit, made available exclusively through UK retailer Screwfix. This partnership, announced by Habi in a press release, grants Screwfix customers first access to the thermostat.

What is the Matter Wireless Room Thermostat Kit?

The kit includes a wireless room thermostat and a boiler receiver, as well as all necessary mounting hardware. Habi’s wireless room thermostat is designed for precise temperature control, allowing users to create custom heating schedules with the help of a straightforward dial interface. It supports integration with popular smart home assistants via Matter, including Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, and Samsung SmartThings.

Built around Thread networking technology and supporting Matter version 1.3, the thermostat aims to deliver a simple setup and reliable daily use. Compliance details highlight its essential abilities, such as heating mode selection and target temperature adjustment. The device also supports over-the-air software updates via Matter, ensuring ongoing improvements and compatibility, according to the files. Notably, the inclusion of the Intermittently Connected Device (ICD) cluster suggests the thermostat is optimized for energy efficiency, offering periods of sleep and wake-up for better responsiveness and battery life.

A key part of the system, the boiler receiver, acts as a Thread Border Router and provides wireless connectivity. It includes integrated relays with both volt-free and normally open/closed contacts, suitable for controlling a variety of heating setups, such as heating controls and stored domestic hot water programming, supporting both S- and Y-plan configurations.

Heating compatibility is broad, with support for most central heating systems, including combi, system, and traditional boilers, as well as heat pumps, direct control of zone valves, circulation pumps, and electric or infrared heaters.

Currently, the Habi Matter Wireless Room Thermostat Kit can be found on the Screwfix website at a price point of £79.99 ($107.46). According to the Habi website, this is just the first in a line of products they plan to offer, with a smart thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) kit expected in the near future.
