Sensereo is bringing Airo, its modular indoor environmental sensing system first shown at CES 2026, closer to market with preorders opening alongside IFA this week.
Instead of putting a fixed collection of sensors into one device, Airo separates them into interchangeable wireless Pods connected through a central Dock. Users can choose what they want to monitor and add sensors based on different rooms or needs.
The system also marks Sensereo’s expansion beyond connected home safety. The company previously released Matter-over-Thread smoke and carbon monoxide alarms powered by reliable Nordic Semiconductor chipsets.
Build your own air quality monitor kit
Airo starts with a central Dock and separate battery-powered sensor Pods.
The initial lineup covers carbon dioxide, total volatile organic compounds, particulate matter, and temperature and humidity. Pods can be placed in different spaces while reporting through the same Airo system, rather than requiring a complete air quality monitor in every room.
That modular approach makes sense because different indoor air measurements solve different problems. CO2 can help indicate whether a room needs better ventilation, while particulate matter can reveal particles from sources such as cooking, smoke and dust. TVOC sensing provides another view into emissions from materials, furniture and household products.
Users could therefore monitor CO2 in a frequently occupied room while putting particulate or TVOC sensing where those measurements are more relevant, rather than duplicating every sensor throughout the home.
Sensereo says the battery-powered Pods can operate for up to 30 days per charge, depending on their sensing mode and environmental conditions.
More than displaying sensor values
Sensereo is also positioning Airo around interpreting environmental data rather than simply presenting measurements.
The system can send alerts when conditions require attention, reveal trends over time and provide recommendations for actions such as improving ventilation.
Sensereo says feedback following Airo’s CES debut showed users wanted help understanding what environmental measurements mean, rather than simply receiving more data.
That is an important challenge for increasingly capable air quality sensors. Measurements such as CO2 and particulate matter can be relatively straightforward to understand, while determining why TVOC levels changed or what users should do about them can be less obvious.
The modular design also gives Sensereo a straightforward way to expand the system. New units could potentially be introduced through additional Pods without requiring users to replace the whole kit.
Sensereo moves beyond safety alarms
Airo represents a broader product direction for Sensereo.
The company previously released Matter-over-Thread smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, including the MS-1 and MSC-1. Those products use Nordic Semiconductor wireless chipsets to bring home safety alerts into compatible Matter ecosystems.
Airo moves from detecting specific safety events toward continuously monitoring the indoor environment.
Each Airo unit also uses Matter over Thread, allowing its sensor data to work with compatible Matter ecosystems without depending on Sensereo’s app for basic smart home integration. Instead of exposing one fixed multi-sensor device, Sensereo can add different environmental measurements through separate Pods.

Sensereo will showcase Airo at IFA Berlin from Sept. 4 through 8, with preorders opening Sept. 4.
The Airo Starter Kit includes one Dock and four Pods for CO2, TVOC, particulate matter 2.5, and temperature and humidity monitoring. It has a suggested retail price of $399 (€349), with a preorder price of $299 (€259).
Sensereo expects shipments to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Preorders will receive lifetime complimentary access to the Sensereo app without an additional subscription.
