A new Matter-controlled Candle Warmer Lamp has been included in SwitchBot’s new Matter-enabled Light Series, which expands its smart home offering into smarter, personalized lighting systems.
What I find particularly intriguing about this announcement is that while the strip, rope, and standing lights look amazing, the Candle Warmer Lamp is probably the only thing I would be able to get into my own living room.
The SwitchBot Candle Warmer Lamp – who is it for?
It is my long-stated belief that any smart home device has to get the assent of all household stakeholders to be properly embraced and used. A robot vacuum cleaner helps everyone; a smart fridge, not so much. Devices that seem desirable and useful, like air purifier tables that can seamlessly integrate with your existing décor, are more attractive to wives and less-techy partners than ugly speakers or bulky retrofitted curtain rail controllers.
This is why I think that what SwitchBot is rightly calling The World’s First Matter-over-WiFi Candle Warmer Lamp might be the first smart home device I could legitimately buy for my wife for Christmas without spending New Year in the spare room.
SwitchBot Candle Warmer Lamp
A flame-free candle warmer with timer and dimming controls, designed to safely melt most scented candles while doubling as ambient lighting.
It uses gentle heat to melt candles (up to 5.51-inch/9.5cm diameter and 3.74-inch/14cm high, so presumably handles wax melts too) rather than flames, and the adjustable brightness and timer can be fine-tuned to adjust illumination and scent intensity.
There’s no flame, so smoke, no soot, so the warm coziness of the aromas don’t come with a trade-off.
Making the Candle Warmer Lamp Matter in your smart home
Matter-over-Wi-Fi integration means that the Candle Warmer Lamp will connect with other SwitchBot devices. This opens various automation possibilities, such as unlocking a romantic evening of relaxing music, dimmed lights, and aromatic “candlelight.” And, of course, Matter support means that the device will work with compatible smart home ecosystems, like Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant.
The visual design of the Candle Warmer Lamp works in its favor, too, coming in white and black options.
You can pre-order the Candle Warmer Lamp direct from SwitchBot now, ahead of shipping in November, when it will presumably also be available on Amazon.
