IFA, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics shows, is back in Berlin for 2025, and one theme is impossible to ignore: the Matter smart home standard is rapidly maturing. The unified standard is now showing up in a diverse range of products designed to fill long-standing gaps in the ecosystem, so we walked the show floor to find the new Matter hardware.

Here are ten of the Matter devices we spotted at IFA 2025 that are worth a look in addition to brands like Aqara, Govee, and SwitchBot.

SmartThings Hub 2 (Aeotec)

Leaks and rumors from Korean media have been circulating for a while, and we finally saw it launch alongside Samsung’s major showcase for SmartThings Pro, its new service for businesses.

Img 8019

Compared to its predecessor, the SmartThings Hub 2 maintains the same rounded design but is more compact. Notably, the hub no longer features a Z-Wave radio. Instead, it incorporates two dedicated radio chips for Zigbee and Thread, akin to the Ikea Dirigera and Aqara M3. This enhancement is expected to improve connectivity compared to hubs like the SmartThings Station, where Zigbee and Thread share a single radio. Additionally, the new hub boasts increased memory and improved System-on-Chip (SoC) performance.

The Aeotec Smart Home Hub is a Wi-Fi connected device that serves as the heart of your smart home, compatible with thousands of devices from hundreds of brands, enabling broad customization, seamless integration, and robust security, all controlled through the SmartThings app on Android, iOS, and iPadOS.

For consumers, the hub will be available starting October 30 at samsung.com, store.aeotec.com, and smartmatters.co. Samsung is also currently open for inquiries from business clients. We observed its usage in a Smart Modular Home powered by SmartThings Pro at the IFA event.

Sonoff air quality sensors

Air quality sensors are a critical part of environmental monitoring in a smart home, and it’s a category that is still largely absent from the market with native Matter support. Sonoff showcased two air quality sensors at its IFA booth after its sibling company Coolkit received Matter certifications in July, including Matter support. These sensors are the Air Quality Monitor PM2.5 and the Air Quality Monitor CO2.

Dsc00787

Both come with a large digital display and a kickstand on the back to place on a table. They can measure temperature, humidity, PM2.5, PM10, and CO2. The two sensors will work via Wi-Fi and are powered by USB adapters.

Sonoff Thread relay switch

Sonoff also announced a new Matter-over-Thread smart relay during IFA, the Basic Gen 5 Matter Smart Switch. It is the first Thread device from the brand, which has invested heavily in the Zigbee and Wi-Fi stacks. It has a minimalist and compact design, slightly larger than its mini device series.

Dsc00793

The switch is designed for smart lighting retrofits, so you can easily turn your existing lighting system into a Matter-over-Thread one while keeping the original lights and panels that best fit your home’s decor. It is also one of the few smart relays that works via Thread, in addition to those from Sunricher.

Ecowitt Matter bridge

Ecowitt, renowned for its weather station setups compatible with major platforms, has introduced a new Matter Bridge. This bridge enables temperature and humidity readings to be transmitted to the Matter platform. Although most features remain unavailable, it’s commendable to witness firms like Ecowitt taking a bold step to support Matter, even when the full weather station device type isn’t yet supported by the specification. Ecowitt anticipates that the standard will eventually provide official support for device types such as wind direction and rain gauge sensors.

In the meantime, we’ve seen progress from brands like Eve to get weather forecasts available via custom clusters.

Bosch [+M] motion detector

Bosch showcased a new member of its [+M] Matter family: the motion sensor. The sensor has a brand-new design, unlike other members of this product line, which inherited their looks from the Zigbee versions.

Motion Detector II [+M]

The Bosch Motion Detector II [+M] is an occupancy sensor designed to work with Matter, ensuring compatibility across a wide range of smart home ecosystems.

Dsc00804

It has a compact design with a small directional light built into the bottom, making it great for use as a night light or indicator. The sensor is rated IP55, so it can be used outdoors.

Working via Thread and Zigbee, the device also has light and temperature sensors, according to the user manual. A Bosch staffer at the booth told Matter Alpha that the built-in directional light can also be controlled via Matter platforms.

The product is now available on the Bosch website, priced at 49.95 euro including 19% VAT.

Shelly Flood Gen 4

Shelly has showcased a new water leakage sensor, the Flood Gen 4. Like all other Gen 4 devices from Shelly with an ESP32-C6 chipset, it supports multiprotocol, including Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Bluetooth. For Matter, it works via Wi-Fi.

The sensor is powered by batteries and comes with a well-built, stiff cable for water and rain detection instead of the flimsy fabric ones commonly seen on such devices. For extensive alarms, the Shelly Flood Gen 4 also has a buzzer with three volume options: Intense, Normal, and Economic.

The Shelly Flood Gen 4 is available on the Shelly website, priced at 29.63 euro, including VAT.

Shelly Presence Gen 4

Shelly also demonstrated a new presence sensor with Matter support. According to the press release, it can reliably detect up to six people in ten zones–even without visible motion. This suggests it is likely using a highly accurate mmWave radar for detection.

It comes in two case colors, black and white, with availability unannounced.

Heiman G1 gas sensor

Heiman continues to expand its Matter-over-Thread product line. The firm has demonstrated over ten different sensors with Matter and Thread support, which is quite rare in the ecosystem. We spotted a new sensor belonging to its “Tiny” line: a gas detector.

Img 8042

The sensor has the iconic design inspired by a wood log. There’s also a built-in alarm to notify you of potential gas leaks in your kitchen. As this is a reference design, its availability will be driven by distributors and partners who rebrand pre-built products.

Tuya garage door sensor

Major smart home solution provider Tuya showed a collection of Matter devices, including a tiny garage door sensor. The sensor works via Thread, with an RJ-style connector for wiring external components. It uses the Contact Sensor device type in Matter, making it compatible with major smart home platforms.

Img 8041

Like Heiman, devices demonstrated by Tuya are usually reference designs. Therefore, we can expect to see white-labeled or rebranded products partnered with Tuya in the near future.

Yeelight Pro S display

Well-known lighting maker Yeelight displayed its new display and gateway device. The 6.9-inch display integrates a Matter controller to manage third-party devices. It can also bridge the company’s extensive line of Bluetooth Mesh products to Matter platforms.

Img 8033

According to the company, they are starting to produce Thread products. So, the display, along with the Pro gateway, is equipped with an OpenThread border router built-in. This panel would serve as an excellent entry point for controlling various Matter devices and scenes mounted on the wall.

The Yeelight Pro S Display also has Wi-Fi and Ethernet for connectivity, with on-device AI for voice controls. The product is currently available in China, but the company has yet to announce global availability.
